Sorry you are suggesting Mernda Football Club is complaining about an onfield incident??? The Mernda Football Club hahahahahhahAnyone at the Eltham v Mernda game? Read the article and wanted to watch the last bits of the game to see the comeback, first off the ground seemed to look OK (after hearing Mernda wanted to call the game off due to state of the ground and being told "if we do that there will be no football in the community in winter") Yeah it looked a little heavy and I would be worried it will last the season but let's be honest, both sides have to play on it and we all know grounds are going to get worse so any attempt to stop play seemed very naive. Seems we are getting too used to the carpet we cop at the start of the seasons than many grounds have.
Secondly there seemed to be a bit of what looks like poor sportsmanship after game with people not shaking hands and some pushing and shoving. Are there typical issues between these two teams or is this a one off? Is it just because it was close, and they are both predicted to be at the pointy end? Games over shake hands, it's that simple, if you cannot do that just walk off as the loser you will look like.
Pub rumour I had to check on was there is a submission from Mernda to review some situations in the game by the Match Review.
This raises a conundrum. I am personally all for video review being used for that dog act the umps somehow miss and maybe we should always look at any incident that causes a concussion due to our current understanding and the way we treat it.
The incident (and I have looked at it to see if it was justified, 3 minutes 20 seconds into last 1/4) that seems to show an EC player go for a spoil and a ME player who was backing into the contest attempting to take a mark and cop the brunt of the bloke going for the spoil and goes down. For mine looks like a clear footy incident and play on (which I believe the Umps called and there didn't seem to be any complaints from players immediately) Cannot see how this could be entertained as an incident to report but then again, we are amazed every day by the AFL and their MRP who knows what the NFNL ones will do.
Do all clubs sent complaints in after a game (or only a loss?) Should there be some criteria, so the MRP are not inundated with every head high incident? We know concussion issues will not go away, but we also know that these things will happen in a contact sport especially in high contested incidents. Are we in dangerous ground if what looks like a footy incident gets asked to be reviewed and the tribunal is compelled to give a ruling due to their being a concussion.
