šŸ˜‚ DJR.. Ol Dick know what heā€™s doin putting this campaigner anywhere near a team?
First round signs were very positive. The two DJR cars are 15th and 16th.

1st pick in the spark plug draft?

I was genuinely quite surprised that we didnā€™t get a generic ā€œyeah Iā€™m happy that theyā€™re going wellā€.

Bit of insight into the man behind the curtain.
Part of me finds the honesty refreshing, part of me wonders just how many people he pushed/nearly pushed out of the club if he can't even bring himself to speak positively eight months after the fact

Ironically Clarkson has shown more nourishing emotions towards the players in his first two games than Noble did in two years.
Aight, I had blacklisted the word nourishment but I think I'm ready to bring it back.

Bottom line is that his fundamental job as a coach, to develop a good game plan, was no good. It made the footy world think that talented guys were talentless, and their confidence was probably the biggest victim of that. That one is on no one but him.

We have a good game plan now, and their confidence is being repaired, so that's that.

I think you mentioned before that anything other than Noble praising the opportunity or being happy about us was gonna surprise.

I'd love to see the interview.
Yep, I did.

It was quite different to how he presented on it during trade radio, which was probably what I was expecting. Conveying that there was no bad blood, both parties made mistakes, ultimately it wasnā€™t the role for him, wish the club well etc etc.

I wonder if heā€™d be equally as publicly bitter if we werenā€™t 2-0ā€¦

2021 and 2022 were Yin and Yang. By the end of season 2021 we were lauded as possibly the best wooden spoon team ever and fast forward 12 months and weā€™re the worst team ever. Weā€™ll die wondering how he could have players such as Tarryn Thomas playing career best footy in 2021 and then signing a 2 year extension at the beginning of 2022, only for the shit show to rollout not long after. Thereā€™s a Netflix doco in all this somewhere.

ā€œI pride myself on doing a lot of research, I probably shouldā€™ve done a bit more research into the environment I was walking into.

ā€œI think we tried to move into more defence in the second year and maybe we shouldā€™ve just stuck with the offence.

ā€œI think thereā€™s lots of things you could pull apart as you go through it. I think thereā€™s lots of things that all parties couldā€™ve learned from that experience.ā€

Nobleā€™s departure from the Roos followed a review from the clubā€™s former CEO and football boss Geoff Walsh.

That review, Noble said, was not made available to him.

ā€œI think you do (take responsibility for reported relationship failures within the club). The buck stops with the coach,ā€ Noble said.

ā€œI was very clear there was a lot of responsibility for me as a senior coach, thatā€™s where it sits. I wouldā€™ve liked to have seen what was in the report to be honest with you, but Iā€™ve never seen it.

ā€œThatā€™s hard to assess where you mayā€™ve let yourself down or let a group down to not know where that mayā€™ve fallen apart.ā€

Noble has since switched sports, being announced as the Dick Johnson Racing teamā€™s boss in December.

ā€œIā€™ve reflected, Iā€™ve talked to a lot of people internally. Iā€™ve taken the chance to really explore other avenues,ā€ he said.

ā€œIā€™ve talked to a lot of people in other sports that I normally wouldnā€™t have the time to do.

ā€œIā€™ve gone back to do some study, Iā€™ve taken the path now that I choose and I feel really privileged Iā€™ve been able to more into the Shell V-power racing team.ā€

I saw it. Clearly has an axe to grind. Slobbo asked him if he could come back and talk more about his time at NMFC. "When the time is right" was the reply. I'd have thought he'd be proud of LDU, Cunners' return, Larkey's growth, LMac & Jy becoming captains, Bergman/Goater/Comben being best 22 etc. Of the 26 players used in the first two rounds, he coached all bar Sheezel, Logue, Shiels and Howe. Could be at all happy that for all the disappointment and hard work the team is getting better? Even say it without really meaning it? Doesn't seem like it. Maybe it's the players he feels burnt by? He's asked does he watch North play at all? An emphatic "Nope" with no elaboration. It felt like he's been taught that if he has nothing nice to say, say nothing.

Anyway, the reality is that unquestionably NMFC is better off without Noble, and hopefully Noble is better off without NMFC. He was an utterly awful coach who took over an utterly awful team and the results were predictably utterly awful. Chapter closed. Move on.

Iā€™m not going to dine in on defending Noble on this one but Greenwood was brought in to compliment Cunnington, not replace him.

Greenwood is getting to play his own role now which is huge for us.
exactly, to play ruck

I have a friend that worked under Nobes at a previous club. He warned me during the North tenure that he was just a ā€œbad personā€. Described him as a stereotypical bad manager you have, rude and entitled.

Also mentioned he was a typical footy manager who had his nose in it too much. Couldnā€™t stay out of the actual coaching side of things despite that not being part of his role.

I'm a bit dirty about the part where he said '...more research into what he was walking into'. Bro, you were a football administrator for multiple clubs and reviewed the Saints football department. That comes off as clueless and putting the blame more on us than anything. That's a piss poor excuse and now that quote is gonna be all over the media because there's clearly resentment feel about all this.

This is a bloke we all defended when clearly there were things he was in control of, that weren't working and if he changed some things, would've made life better performance wise. I don't think Noble has the leverage to go that deep at us. That just sounds like someone that felt they were cut short early even though he was responsible for holding back a few of our young players (mainly LDU).

We're in a much better place because the club had enough of the failed experiments and got serious. Not only because Noble sucked but because our coaching panel was not what it needed to be. Noble as an experienced admin should know better than have an interview like that.

Now I know with 100% certainty what was wrong with North in 2022.

i'd suggest that the answer to that first question is that the relationship between Noble and the players was just as bad as it was rumoured to be.

The players were consulted for that report, right? I can't imagine that the feedback they gave was a glowing endorsement of his methods

Me either. But how would Noble know what they said in the report? Apparently, Noble has never seen it.

Seems to have regressed a bit in way of bitterness ?

That's just a weasly way of saying "I wish I'd never taken the job." And given the way it played out, I don't think anyone for either side would disagree.

There were a lot of unknowns, sure. But for me I would just expect Noble to be content about how things panned out and not create more headlines for us to lament further. We've already suffered enough as supporters and this thing has now created more ammo for Caro and the other snipers.

He's just made himself look less favourable in the eyes of kangas supporters that defended him because of that 360 interview.

Conceding the most points of any side over a five-year period isn't what I'd call defensive footy.

The only side that David Noble was able to stop scoring was his own.
Most 47+ point losses of any coach parking the whole squad in defensive 50 at every opportunity. That was the defensive tactic from what I could tell and it certainly worked well when we had no one to kick to. Also, we sure were defensively minded allowing elite half back accumulators get 15m separation from a kick in at will. Local level coaching at its finest. Zoning without even knowing how to zone.

Noble would make a great AFL media journalist because short memories is a must have as a 'quality'.
