Assistants who have been in successful programmes in the immediate past tend to be the most sought after.

Gia has been at the Bombres.

Nuff said.
Lol true, but he was directly working with Bevo for our flag though, been in the system for some time. Essendon won't make the mistake of an untried coach again, but if there is fallout from Clarko Fagan I'd think he would have to be considered.

I’d be mindful of throwing too many stones. Our club in the past has had a troublesome history with the recruitment and retention of indigenous players with the accusation being an active plan to avoid drafting and stick our head in the sand.

That accusation is obviously nothing near what happened been alleged within this report but non the less it was not a good look.

I’m glad that we seem to be a far more welcoming and happy place for kids like Marra and Arthur to begin their careers at now.

Brett Goodes and Cooper Craig-Peters have certainly helped, ditto Travis Varcoe.

Can’t agree more with this. I doubt many clubs have covered themselves with glory with this kind of racist shit. Our club included no doubt. I am so gutted for the Indigenous playing group…why do they need to keep dealing with this just to play the game.

How sure are you of the “active plan” comment?
I thought the club had answered that it was just a case of a non- indigenous player being more highly rated at the individual pick. Has the club ever said it was an active plan?

I can’t be sure mate because I wasn’t in the club nor has the club ever publicly made a statement about it however, it was well known throughout the industry and it was not just at our club. Former staffers have said things off the record that confirm what is alleged but again, there is no official source so take it as you would.

There's probably some truth considering the dogs had lost near all their indigenous players by 2017-2018 most through 2012-2015. I think Stevens was the last before JUH came.

It’s never ‘clubs’ but individuals within clubs that do this stuff. It’s not Hawthorn but those individuals. If ‘higher ups’ know about it, and give it an ok, it’s them too, and they are every bit as guilty. If people don’t listen to the victims they are also part of the problem. But it is never a ‘club’.

Tristan Tweedie was on the Cat B rookie list in 2017. Before him, Stevens and Hamling left at the end of 2016, Goodes until end of 2015, Jones until end of 2014.

AFL apparently pressuring North to make a statement today...

I do wonder what, if anything, they knew prior to hiring Clarkson.
Could Hawthorn have commissioned this report, knowing the outcome would look unfavourably on Clarko, to not pay him the $450,000 they still owe him?

Your words remind me of Paul Kelly’s beautiful song about Eddie Betts:

I know my life is a blessing
And all blessings come with a curse
My enemies I know I can handle
But friends now, well, they can be worse

Oh, I'm so sick and tired of keeping it inside
I'm so sick and tired today
I remember the old ones' hard travelling
They're with me every step of the way

As for our club , I hope the recruitment of Marra can be some sort of redemption, a turning point . Seeing the boys with him at Framlingham was great , that must have been an education, as was the trip to the Tiwi islands.

Any time anyone , including yourself cos I know I do it, calls Marra lazy or uninterested you’ve got to police yourself or call it out. Or criticise who he chooses to go out with, beyond what other players cop. We carry baggage we aren’t aware of.

I doubt it, the implications it will have for Hawthorn themselves are so significant. These aren't minor allegations, and reflect a major and deep cultural issue at the organisation (worse than Collingwood).

Given Fagan's response, I'd say where there is smoke there is fire and this is all very real (of course still subject to a formal investigation).

I just cant fathom how you could ask an employee to do that, its utterly disgraceful.

I know what you're saying, but surely not. The impact to their identity, membership and sponsorship through this could be unprecedented. You don't risk losing millions to save thousands.

This will potentially cost them a lot more than 450k, from sponsors tearing up contracts to possible legal bills/damages from the victims of this report.

Unmitigated disaster for Hawthorn.

Pinched from MB thread, no inference Bevo involved, just he was there for what is allegedly part of the time-line:
(Simpson, Cameron and Ratten also served as assistants at Hawks under Clarkson, Ratten is on the list below, other 2 were there earlier):

I'm not sure where they're getting that comment around 2014/15 specifically, the only thing I've seen is it occurring during his 'run of success' including the threepeat and 2008 flag.
