That would have been set up by the work experience kid! :)

There was a bet a few years back - god I can't recall the teams / game: Port/Bulldogs? where they were offering stupid odds like $400 for a 40+ win by one of them (Bulldogs?). I put a few bucks on it, but Sportsbet cancelled it a day or so later.
Its often joked about on the Punting forum about work experience kids setting the odds for the week.

Thats a good bet to take on your part.

$400 for 40+ is definitely overs and likely to be scrapped. They can cancel bets at their discretion. Mind you during the game you will definitely get odds of $500 for 40+ wins. I know as I follow odds live on line.

Usually its ridiculous scenarios. For example, when we led the Roos by 4+ goals towards the end of the 4th quarter, you will see odds for a Roos win by 40+ being around the $500 mark.

I've been caught out like that too.

A couple of years ago Sportbet had the Utah Jazz (who were massive favourites) paying around $7 for a win, from what I can remember I think they got the odds the wrong way around (the favourite got the underdog odds and the underdog got the favourites odds) so I dropped $30 on it. After they won I logged in to check my balance and found there was only the $30 in my account and the bet had been cancelled.

I have an issue with how they can just cancel a bet at any time, if they make a mistake like that and people bet on it then they should honour it at least up to a $20 bet.

Usually these bets are rectified before the start of the game.

If it takes place post game, you do have a legitimate leg to stand on legally, mind you they can also cancel your account at their discretion if you challenge.

So is winning that amount worth cancelling your account?

To be fair, I guess it's similar to the "get out clause" that retailers / online stores have when there's been an obvious error in the pricing; they can cancel orders.

- Many years ago, back in the days of dialup, I managed to place a bet on a dog race after the face had finished. I was just idly playing with a few small bets to pass the time, Alt-tabbing between Sportsbet and the TAB site (which had a better form guide). Saw a race had finished (about 20 secs earlier) and for some reason decide to try placing a bet - just a couple of dollars - on the second placed dog, because the place odds where better than the win. To my amazement, they accepted the bet - and paid out. I spent the next 2 weeks waiting for the knock on the door :)

I did place it before the game started and then didn't check it again until later in the day so it's definitely possible that it was cancelled before the game started.

I never bothered to chase it up, I knew they had made a mistake which is why I bet on it. I was just hoping that they didn't know that they had made it until it was too late !!!

I often do see mistakes on SB and other bookies, but generally dont bother as I know they will be cancelled so its a pointless exercise for me.

Then there are some mistakes which is a very grey area. This was infamously discussed on the punter forums. The biggest problem with this bet was that all 3 legs of the bet were dependent on each other. I actually agree with the TAB on this one, anyone that bets properly knows that this is a BS bet. I think the result was settled privately.

I've noticed over the last year or so that Sportsbet in particular have clamped the screws down on multi-bets and some of the things you used to be able to put into a multi you no longer can.

My guess is there's people out there that are trying to exploit the algorithm (similar to what the guy did in your post) so they've clamped down the screws by not allowing half the bets that they used to allow.

The thing about betting companies that pisses me off is that the markets they offer and in particular spot betting makes it more likely that fixing to whatever extent in games happens more often, which then requires the involvement of police and govt agencies to crack down on

There was a VPL team in Melbourne about 6 or 7 years ago that got down for routinely fixing matches - coach and some players did time- I actually was at a game where they were 1-0 at the 80th min and lost 4-0 - this was the game that got investigators watching them as hundreds of thousands of dollars got put on them in the 80th to lose 4-0 -

Quite frankly of agencies want to open markets that are exploitable like that, then that is on them and that's their risk

Edit: this autocorrect on my phone is the pits I've edited three times now and I still see some mistakes but you guys get my jist x

Still remember getting $40 for Crows defender Andy Otten to kick the first goal when we started playing him up forward. The Sportsbet work experience kid kept on pricing him as a defender. I think a few of us got on that one.

Bock's family almost had the last laugh, they got him at $151 for first goal when he was playing for the Suns.

Unlucky as he kicked a point.

I cleaned up on the winner of tv show survivor a few years ago, had the inside word from a triple hawthorn premiership player who was also on the series, who may have let slip who the winner was. The winnings contained 3 0’s

Apologies it was $101, I guess it was 10 years ago, my memory must be fading. :drunk:

Anyone read Marc Murphy's comments about Mick Malthouse? :grimacing:

"He probably would have said that he would have chosen a different captain at the time and he even said that to me when I got appointed captain,"

Hey GROTTO

Got that Torn gif handy?

Cheers in advance
Always on standby for any Port saga to transpire.

Sadly I think 2022 they will come for Ken, they will come hard, they will come strong.

What have I missed?
On this thread, we are always on standby for another Port fiasco.

Its only December, Port have only won H&A games, Finals to be played in February next year. Dont worry the March Premiers will be posting on here around that time.

Does bring up a point that could apply to Doedee too. Malthouse wanted Carrazzo as Captain, but felt he couldn't pick him since he had so many injury issues.

I remember seeing his first game at footy park against geelong I think it was
Looked like he could be anything.

he had the odd game, even towards the end where he put it altogether

some would say they were efforts that Showed he was worth persisting with; others saw as the whole problem in a nutshell

he chose when to go. And it wasn’t that often or even enough

he never lacked for talent, just heart

So Marc Murphy revealed on the Dyl and Friends podcast that not only did his dad turn down a F/S deal to go to Hawthorn (who went on to win 3 flags), Richmond had approached him in 2016 to leave Carlton and join them (they went on to win 3 flags)

Instead he chose to stay at Carlton and win no flags and not even play finals, oops!
