Smells a lot like the end of Pyke who was playing the very underperforming senior players hoping to just sneak into the finals and Hinkley will be leaving the list in as worst state after our major list turnover. He banked on this list winning the premiership like Pyke had and I can't see any good young KPP prospects coming through and the development of Butters, Rozee and Duursma all stalled (particularly Rozee).

Alir Alir turning 29 next year is a bit of a surprise.

She got best on with 7 kicks 11 handballs and 11 tackles. No other stats. Joke.
She had 12 clearances and her team won by 30 odd points, was the highest possession getter for her team that day.

Blackburn had 23 and probably deserved the 3 votes but yeah, do with that what you like

It will be used and IMO is being used as a weapon, that is a tactical maneuver by coaches to either win a game or maintain a lead.
Therefore, who is our ideal sub? Must run, have impact and isn't a best 22 the lock.

King and others have come up with what I think is the solution to this

Once one club activates the medical sub in a match, the other club can do it too

Someone gets injured, you’re not just replacing them, you’re replacing a tired player with fresh legs in the last quarter (potentially). If the other team plays by the rules and doesn’t activate, they’re at a huge disadvantage

This idea would put things back on an even keel. I like it.
That’s so 2021

You almost have to sympathise with Port fans, especially the breed on here. Though they call for Ken to be sacked, what they are really saying is the Ken era is over. Every club has an era that cycles through. The Boak/Gray/Dixon era with Ken at the helm is over. They need to prepare for a new era, to build on guys like Butters and Rozee that started promising but are stagnating because they are focussed too much on the old guard.

It's a bit embarrassing for them in a showdown which they lost to a team as poor and inexperienced as us, their best player is 34 years old.

They need a new era, need Boak and Gray to retire and a new fresh approach, which will come with a few years of pain but at least some hope.

Instead, Kochie is too gutless to sack his mate and plan ahead and so he throws out distractions like "bring back the bars" which get all the mouth-breathers razzled up. They're better off getting a new coach, piss off that flog Chris Davies (who is more interested in taking pot shots and helping out his buddies than building a football program), send Boak, Gray, Dixon, Jonas away - recruit Rankosius and draft some talent and go from there.

Look, I think that is unfair on the player, to be honest...sometimes people recover quicker than others

How about...

If a subbed out player is picked the week after, the senior coach gets kicked in the balls by a supporter of the team they played against (raffled off at $5 a ticket pre game...no sub, no kick, no play next week, no kick and all money raised goes to charity).

At the end of the day, as you saw the senior coach bent over and vomiting, you'd think "fair enough".

Genius. Give this man a prize

Yep I've always thought this sounded right too.

Once it's activated the other team gets a free sub activation.

Even if the injury is real, what if it's the teams worst player, having a horrible game, subbed out and fresh legs, it's an advantage.
Or how about no sub and suck up an injury like we’ve done for decades.

It's an impossible thing to police. Every player would have a sore something or other that you could build a case to sub them over.

Should just be a free hit for teams to use whenever they want
No... should be a rule that any player subbed out must miss the following week.

it was birthed as a concussion sub to add a defence to any future legal claims re duty of care. Was watered down to injury sub but with rules about degree of injury. Now it's just an extra bloke to be inserted into the game strategically. It's typical AFL.

Just before Billy Frampton picks up the ball, it was Houston who did a kick in mid-air which could have gone anywhere whereas it would have been more logical to create a stoppage which would have run the clock down.

What I think you find which distinguishes an average player, good player and a very good player is what do they do in a pressure moment and explains why some players are not regulars in their side - under pressure their weaknesses are magnified. I think that question was answered a few times on Friday night.

I still don’t understand how Matthew Nicks was laughing and smiling just before Dawson was about to take the kick. Wonder what was going thru his mind.
I get where nicks is coming from. Dawson misses it and what have we learnt? Not a lot. We did everything we could to win the game. He kicks it, bliss.

What I dont get is Hinkley laughing before the kick. A miss and his season might still be on life support. Miss, and his job is gone. Does he care?

Saw on FB a sponsored podcast from Neds which had Rockliff and some other dude talking about Port Adelaide.

Rockliff comments that Sydney in 2016 lost the first 6 games but went on to make the GF. Rockliff reckons that Port can still make the GF from this 0-3 start.

Now the facts -
  • it was 2017 not 2016, Sydney did make finals winning 14 of their last 16 games but lost in the semifinal week
  • Hinkley is not Longmire
  • Dixon is not Franklin (we can do this scenario with the whole list)
  • you can’t make a GF with the benefit of two home preliminary finals, it ain’t going to happen if you have to play away each week in cut throat death finals

They have got to keep the dream alive somehow

When he was coming down from the coaches box to the boundary, during that time he would have thought Murphy was taking the kick.

With all due respect Murphy is not sinking that goal. To Ken's horror, Dawson was given the free kick. If Ken is not laughing he is crying, tears of pain.

Looking back, here is the list of players at our Club who I genuinely believe could have nailed that kick there is probably at best 5.

Tex, Smith, Seedsman, Rachele, TT and of course Dawson.

Being 0-5 is massive. Its what they will be, if the Dees and Blues rock up and play at the same level that they have been playing this year.

By then the Eagles should have everyone back, beating the Eagles at home is no lock if they are close to full strength, 0-6 is a real thing.

Ha you would think he would have double checked those stats before he broadcasted them.

Reminds me when he came to Port he would finally get to play some finals football.
I think he only played 1 or 2 finals in the end.
Brisbane ended up playing quite a few.

Fogarty?

Has the yips currently (2.3) but he is good and at distance.

Quite a bit has been said about this. I wouldn't be so sure.

I couldn't find Murphy's set shot that goaled from a similar angle and distance but at the southern end, but this one's a gem.

(have to scroll down to it)

Edit: This one would have done it. around the 2:07 mark

Im not saying he couldnt kick it, but I would have the players I listed ahead first as my choice, then Murphy. Most players in our team could kick close the distance, sure anyone can kick a goal from this distance and a lot have, but would you bet your life on Murphy nailing it ahead of others on my previous list.

Im not confident he would nail it. When he was awarded the free kick, my first natural instinct is that the issue of accuracy and distance is a concern.

Truth be told, I accepted Port won the Showdown. My only glimmer of hope was when Rachele was holding the ball almost the entire time and I thought to myself, Murphy stay the f**k down.

Fogarty definitely could have kicked it, if his head weren't completely scrambled. Fog of 2018 to early 2020 would be odds on to kick it, Fog of 2021 not so much.
