I thought that was more an off field finances thing, they weren't that bad on field
Bit of both. Couldn't capitalise on the 80s and 90s success

Remember they got a PP in the Buddy/Roughed 2004 draft

Any way I reckon great news for North.

I know we make some bad decisions as a club, but if Essendon do this, nothing will ever top its awfulness. They can’t, surely?

What have they actually told Rutten?

Is it as bad as “We’re chasing someone else but you can warm the seat until we get them?”

Maybe I’ve missed something, but that’s what it seems like.

I have to wonder if North and Essendon gave Noble and Rutten the resources (assistants, high performance etc) North will and Essendon would have given Clarkson?

You've got to figure two first timers would need a lot more support around them than the greatest of all time, Clarkson should be able to do it all himself...

We've been guilty of running some pretty lean football departments alongside inexperienced senior coaches in recent times, seems to have improved.

The best clubs seem to not be affraid to still surround premiership coaches with other former senior coaches as line coaches or very experienced heads of football and all of that.

Not sure if it's the better experienced coaches being comfortable enough to have former coaches sitting below them or clubs having confidence in them to invest further or just the good clubs knowing its the right thing to do. I'm guessing it's also a bit that the best people know that sitting alongside a Clarkson or Hardwick will enhance their resumes.

Eitherway, if you can't put together the right team around a first time coach, maybe a first time coach isn't the right fit for that club.

Think it's something the AFL is getting better at, but to discard a first time coach after his first go, even though 2 years prior he would have been the best candidate and assistant coach, and learnt a ton of stuff failing as a senior coach, likely due to things out of their control seems pretty wasteful.

A 7 year deal to injury plagued Charlie Curnow...wow...let's see how this ends!

Essendon considering bring back James Hird?!

Are they on drugs?

Essendon supporters never cease to amaze me sometimes.

The fact that there is still a large contingent of their supporter base who still blindly idolise that guy is insane.
