Well, it’s in every player’s contract and that’s probably my only ‘care’ because I think contracts need to be honoured, but I also think it’s unrealistic to, in these times, expect young healthy cashed up lads to ignore the temptations.

Maybe the contracts are too out of touch with the real world.

Now Stengle e.g., he’d be playing for us still and would have played all last year if I had my way.

The other issue as mentioned by one of the commentators, think it was Jonathon Brown, was that players probably end up taking them when under the influence of alcohol.

It is not an easy issue to deal with and no easy answers.

Its like death by a thousand cuts with the VFL.

Carlton v Richmond on Thursday night (again) in round 14. They couldn't even wait for each team to play each other.

Meanwhile we got our first Friday night showdown shared with another game.

You don't need a survey on why peoples interest in the game is waning.

AFL have cleared Charlie Cameron of any wrongdoing but I reckon he absolutely deliberately tunnelled McKenzie on Saturday night.

Decided not to contest the mark and attacked McKenzie instead. Then immediately cried ‘innocent!’ to the umpire when he saw McKenzie was in a bad way.
I was most interested in him not giving away 50m after he had his arms out about 4 times after the event.

Have we forgotten that rule now?

I went through the predictor having us win every game by 100 points and we came sixth! And then played Geelong in the first week of the finals and beat them, then Melbourne. then Fremantle and then won the grand final against Brisbane. That's all it took. Buy your tickets everyone!
Oh and Port finished 11th and Ken was sacked.

Maybe players should not be allowed to use the mental health card as some kind of acceptable excuse when they get caught using.

They get paid shitloads of money and that comes with one of the conditions that they don’t use illicit drugs.

It doesn’t exactly come with that condition though. There’s a system in place that provides punishment dependent upon number of contravening instances. Strike 1 is less an offence than a gut punch.

It's a bit sad isn't it.

Remember the debacle their club was in what 18 months ago with the whole salary cap saga. And they still managed to get out of it quicker than us.
They had so many good players they had to pay another club to take a player who would be our best player easily. They have much more talent than us pure and simple so it's not that surprising

A concerning trend for us is when our senior players reach their late 20s, their form falls off a cliff. Sloane hasn't been the same since 2017, Talia retired at 29, Brown is not the same player anymore and is only 29, Gibbs suddenly went off the rails at 30 after a great 2018 and Crouch looks done as an AFL footballer and is only 27. Sauce's form dropped off suddenly too. Tex looked very much to be heading that way to but turned things around last year and should have another year in him.

Most other clubs have players who can still play a valuable role well into their 30s. Who was our last? Goody/Edwards/McLeod in '09?
Probably helps playing 18 home games a year

Plenty of questions about Port but a few comments on their list

Dursma was going to be a superstar but now can't make the team. It shows first year form is not always an upwards trajectory.

Surely someone will target Georgiadis at the end of the season. To much potential.

I've said it before but Jones is an average AFL player. His skills are not good enough and he is too slow. The bigger body helps you at lower levels but AFL is a different story.

For 12 months they talked about Hayes being the best ruckman not playing AFL. Now they won't play him and I doubt many clubs would chase him.

I know he has been injured but Bergmann is not going to be the superstar they thought he was going to be 12 months ago.

All the talk that Port just keep drafting quality is a myth based on a couple of good selections in my opinion.

Half the myths about Port trading and recruiting come from some of our resident bed wetters.
