The trick is not to get sacked in your third year. Or your fourth, fifth, sixth…

Be unsuccessful long enough and people start to think that you’re just unlucky, as long as you don’t get sacked, which is strangely fatal to continuing to hold your job.

Don’t hold your job and you’ll be sacked for being unsuccessful, whereas if you can avoid not holding onto your job you’ll never be sacked and you’ll be successfully unsackable after 10 years.
