Not just my view "friend". Given cities like Adelaide and Perth lose AFL talent all the time back to Victoria, with significantly larger populations and post football opportunities, you actually think a town like Hobart, with 250k (so a million less than Adelaide) is going to retain them?

You make the same mistake many make - they arent leaving because its Hobart or Adelaide - its because the pool they are picked from is ''mostly'' Victorian and it would be easier for them to return to Victoria- not all get better marketing opportunities. That would be 5% of footballers who can earn good coin after football

Port are poor. They're cheaping out having one B&F instead of two

We tried a combined B&F once (think it may have been 2020), but the girls were upset about waiting so long for their B&F so the club went back to separate B&F's.

Tassie, Gold Coast and GWS are only going to work and be relevant long term if the AFL get rid of 3 or 4 Victorian teams.

That wont address the factor that footy4ever said was the reason they will struggle to hold on to talent, all it would do is turn the remaining teams in Victoria into super teams where the better Victorian talent gets concentrated amongst fewer clubs.

if they don’t then the Tassie team will just join GCS and GWS in becoming another feeder club for the vicco sides..

Brisbane went from revolving door to consistent top 4 in a handful of years, there is realistically no difference between Swans and GWS other than the cultures they have. I think clubs can improve their lot, significantly. Will they? I think our shortage isn't players, it is high-end off-field people, the talent pools seems far more constrained than the player pool.

take 3-4 vicco teams out of the equation and that is 150-200 less list spots, and the salary cap space that goes with them, available for players to play for a victorian based AFL side..

You will create state of origin like teams and it is going to be a bad outcome when 50% of the nationwide talent comes from one state. It is not like we have cities here like Chicago, all of Australia's major cities are fantastic, someone fresh out of school shouldn't really have an issue with any city for a number of years. I am not sure why the go-home factor is what it is in AFL compared to other sports, it is not just going back to Victoria, it is the same with SA and WA players too.

thus less opportunity for players to return home to play in Vic for a vicco based team..

There will be less opportunity for average players, clubs will always make way for the best players.

Throwing 1st / 2nd year players in against the AFL's best midfielders can stagnate a players confidence and development .....depending on the players personality

Comparing that with the Rankine video where he also had surgery in the off season (just before it) but is putting in mass effort and running with the midfield group

In fairness leg injuries are hard to train for than upper body but yeah he looks like he couldn't give a shit
