When do we lose Chayce Jones? Hopefully the VFL introduce a very generous compensation scheme intended for the Vic clubs and forget we have a player.
I still reckon there's a serious footballer in there.

I see glimpses of everything required, just would like to see it all at once,I still reckon there's a serious footballer in there.
Great news
Baldy .....you're not 18-20 YO .....they're wired differently these daysIt is great news.
Anyone predicting a lack of support, a club with no heart, a team that will struggle … don’t know Tassie very well.
Look at what the Jack Jumpers did in their first season.
The new stadium will be a great addition to the waterfront … nice little stroll from work for the Friday night games an added bonus!
Every comment I read about how no players will want to live here gives me a small chuckle. I guess we will see … the proof will be in the eating (not the pudding).

Going to sleepy hollow Tasmania .....will be like being sent to Siberia
Big difference in a 10 man Basketball Roster .......to a 44 man AFL Roster
You going to jump ship?It is great news.

It's like the young people of Adelaide. They love living here, but the rest of Australia's young people prefer the big city razzamatazz. Tassie will end up being like Crows and Port having to pay overs to get the good players to come and to keep the good interstate players. None of them are going to be fighting anyone to go there unless there are tons of $$ involved.Yeah, you are right WW!
I directly manage about 80 staff in their 20s every day.
I previously worked as a youth coach in Hobart for 4 years.
I have a 19 year old daughter and 22 year old son.
What would I know about young people living in Hobart????
Tassie, Gold Coast and GWS are only going to work and be relevant long term if the AFL get rid of 3 or 4 Victorian teams. It's like the young people of Adelaide. Never. I am doomed like the rest of you!!You going to jump ship?
No offence, but the people you are talking about are born and raised in Tasmania..so a different category of people. Living in Melbourne, I can assure you the average Vic Metro footballer superstar has no interest in living anywhere else but Melbourne, and will eventually come back when they are able to...thus the reason why clubs like ours are now prioritizing local born talent. Tasmania I think as a side will really struggle in terms of retention unless it can develop a better base of juniors locally...Yeah, you are right WW!

I'd be betting now, the New Tassie side will be given exclusive "zone" rights to Tasmania ....they'll probably complain though, their zone isn't big enough ......so lets compromise & throw in King IslandNo offence, but the people you are talking about are born and raised in Tasmania..so a different category of people. Correct.Tasmania I think as a side will really struggle in terms of retention unless it can develop a better base of juniors locally...

Not until the AFL stop propping Clubs up financially ......it's become a crutch, whereby the AFL Clubs keep spending money, safe they have a "Sugar Daddy"I hope one day this happens. Definitely seems potentially a couple of VFL Clubs may fold in the next 20 years.
The next 20 years will be interesting.
I presume one day a team from the NT may be the next to come in potentially?
Thing is, the AFL will never reduce the overall number of teams. It's 18 now, will be 19 with Tassie, and after that it will never go back to 18 again. If a VFL club folds, it will be replaced somehow - by an NT club or maybe another in WA (which has been speculated for the longer term). It's hard enough to expect the AFL to let a Vic club fold, even harder when they would feel compelled to replace it - i.e. if a replacement isn't viable, they'd rather prop up the failing club.I hope one day this happens. Definitely seems potentially a couple of VFL Clubs may fold in the next 20 years.

Doesn't it just mean the Vic teams left get better because the same number of players coming back to less teams?Tassie, Gold Coast and GWS are only going to work and be relevant long term if the AFL get rid of 3 or 4 Victorian teams.
if they don’t then the Tassie team will just join GCS and GWS in becoming another feeder club for the vicco sides..
take 3-4 vicco teams out of the equation and that is 150-200 less list spots, and the salary cap space that goes with them, available for players to play for a victorian based AFL side..
thus less opportunity for players to return home to play in Vic for a vicco based team..
It results in a much smaller salary pool as well though..Doesn't it just mean the Vic teams left get better because the same number of players coming back to less teams?
I'm not as convinced that Tassie will be a feeder club, it appears based on nothing but hope, but it's a Footy state I guess.
A more transparent salary cap would be nice.
I'm not sure how you address player retention, perhaps non Vic clubs get 1st shot at local talent before the rest go in the draft? Vic clubs would kick up a stink.
If only the Costa of the salary pool was Visy-ble for everyoneIt results in a much smaller salary pool as well though..
Yeah.. thats a point..If only the Costa of the salary pool was Visy-ble for everyone

No I'm not. Assume much?No offence, but the people you are talking about are born and raised in Tasmania..so a different category of people.
I loved my time living in Hobart. Beautiful city. Not every kid wants to be starting a fashion label - some would enjoy the lifestyle. No I'm not. Assume much?
Look, you believe what you like ... Hobart is a backwards back-water, no-one under 40 would want to live here, the team will fail as they lose all their talent to the exciting towns. Whatever makes you happy my friend.
That should happen, but won't.Tassie, Gold Coast and GWS are only going to work and be relevant long term if the AFL get rid of 3 or 4 Victorian teams.

Not just my view "friend". Given cities like Adelaide and Perth lose AFL talent all the time back to Victoria, with significantly larger populations and post football opportunities, you actually think a town like Hobart, with 250k (so a million less than Adelaide) is going to retain them?No I'm not. Assume much?
