Remember last year when there was all this talk of goodwill from the footy public towards Collingwood?

They were everyone's second team etc.

That's gone pretty quick.

Everyone’s second team? Not sure about that.

My second team is anyone playing Port, changes each week.

Oh yeah, all last year. Big theme in the media.
I like their style of play & good to watch but doesn't make them my 2nd side.

I have teams I enjoy watching & other who I find painful.

The big issue is that a number of players don’t have the desire either and they have the oldest list (and the average age is well ahead of the 2nd oldest side, Geelong).

One of the stats is they have won 17 of 21 games decided by less than a kick over the past two seasons. That is a years worth of wins! And three of those wins were against us!

I’m not saying it is going to happen but I reckon a few things aren’t going to go their way this year. Back to back - unlikely.
It’s always interesting when one team seemingly dominates a season and wins the flag, but then the next season other teams have figured them out and found a new way to play that counters them

After Melbourne's flag you would have thought they’d be unbeatable for the next couple, but nowhere near it

Some teams get lucky with the draw and timing of when they play certain teams. there was no question this occurred last year. You are only as good as your competition allows you to be and they benefited.

The GWS crowd seemed pretty vocal

Seems like they are growing that supporter base

It was always going to happen, like how Port have grown from a 25%-30% supporter base to near on being equal to us. GWS came from further back and it will still take another 10 years to grow to near equal terms with the swans but they will get there. Fremantle and West Coast are on equal footing now. Gold Coast however are in a market that is unlikely to earn them 50k crowds. EVER

i was there tonight and thought the crowd was a little disappointing

it was the prelim replay, no rugby league in the state and it wasn’t even close to a full house

so many spare seats

What last night showed was the GWS form of last year was no fluke and they are going to be strong again and can only see them getting better as some of their kids develop more. Lock for top 4 and serious premiership contender.

Which is great because even if Port improve, their football is unlikely to be at GWS level.

Plus GWS are great to watch.

With Carlton’s win, they’ll also be pushing top 4, their form last year was also no fluke.

Top 4 looks like an awesome battle, Pies, Lions, GWS with Carlton, Sydney and Port to fight it out I reckon. Any thought of us pushing to top 4 this year is fantasy.

Well our battles with Brisbane, Sydney and Port will be crucial then to their top 4 chances as we play them twice.

GWS should have beaten collingwood in the prelim but were robbed by the umpires in that game. Hopefully they can hold on and show Collingwood fluked that premiership. Which in my view they did and are highly over rated.

They're not overrated, it was just a very even year where the best side wasn't that much better than the bunch below them.

Do chuckle at the posters who predict us in the top handful, especially since TT's injury. Finishing that high was conceivable, but it relied upon another huge year from Tex and TT breaking out. Tex looks to be hampered and TT out for half the year. Our defence is suspect, only Michaelanny projects as A grade and midfield is still developing. Laird and Crouch playing 80% TOG in the engine room is not a high level midfield. And we've trouble on the wings with Sholl a fringe type and Jones returning from injury. If Tex fires, our peak is around 8th, if he doesn't, it's a couple of spots below that.

‘Footy greats have been accused of vile racism against North Melbourne’s Krakouer brothers in an explosive class action levelled against the AFL.
Essendon greats Kevin Sheedy, Terry Daniher, Roger Merrett and Bill Duckworth, as well as Carlton’s four-time premiership hero Wayne Johnston, are named in a bombshell Supreme Court statement of claim that was lodged against the league last Tuesday.

The document alleges the Krakouer brothers were called “petrol sniffers”, “a--s” and “n-----s” in the 1980s’

Agree.

In 2017, we had a % of 135 and our defence conceded 1776, only 4 points more per game than Collingwood last year. Premiers Richmond % was only 118 but they also conceded 4 points less per game. 2017 like last year was a very even year.

The one thing that we need to focus on is just not attack but also defence. Defence wins flags.

Why do we always try to impose todays standards on what happened decades ago? You can’t change the past unfortunately and choosing to do it 4 decades later reeks of ……… (you can fill in the blanks).

Ok, it happened, much the same as I called kids from southern European “.ogs” or “.agos” in school in the 70’s. It was the time, let us not get all righteous about this. There are things we are doing today which in a few decades time we will say WTF.

Now I will say when I was a kid we had a black cat in 60’s and its name was **igger whilst our white cat was called Peter.
