What was the difference between Clarkson and Finlayson's transgression?
One is a high profiled football person in Victoria and in the AFL, the other is a low profile player from a Non-Victorian Club.

Remember when Joel Selwood was caught on video eye gouging Riley Knight and the AFL didn't even look at it?

Same system still in place

In regards to Selwood the decision was made by an unbiased panel.

Finlayson saved from the indignity of being dropped for Sam Powell-Pepper

This incident has always been symbolic of the differences between the 1997(and 1998) Crows that won the premiership, and the 2017 Crows who got to the grand final, choked, and subsequently imploded.

Round 18 1997, Trent Ormond-Allen has his jaw broken behind play by Luke O'Sullivan. AFC do not accept the AFL's inaction and break with "Code of silence" conventions to demand a suspension.

Round 18 2017, Riley Knight is eye-gouged by Joel Selwood and reacts accordingly. The AFL does nothing and the 2017 Crows meekly accept this.

Homophobic slur only half as bad as a racist one according to the AFL.

On SM-A325F using BigFooty.com mobile app

Much less than half, one was said directly to the player during a game by another player.

You would assume this would have a bigger impact to the player than a slur the player was unaware was even said.

so is calling a straight man gay homophobic now? Or has the AFL just inadvertently outed [punintentional surname redacted]?

homophobia

noun

ho·mo·pho·bia ˌhō-mə-ˈfō-bē-ə

irrational fear of, aversion to, or discrimination against homosexuality or gay people
A homophobic slur is a homophobic slur - no matter who it is directed towards.

With so many suitable grounds already, it does strange the AFL are wanting to spend hundreds of millions on a new stadium in Tasmania.
I can understand why people think the money could be better spent else where
Why not get footy up and running first at Bellerive Oval, I think that is a beautiful ground.
If the numbers then make it viable for a new stadium later on, go for it.
It's actually very strange.

Forget where the money "would better be spent" argument, as that is another very confusing position ... but the "Why not try before you put yourself in a massive amount of debt over the coming 20 years" argument makes a whole lot of sense to a lot of us down here.

I'd be fine jumping on the ferry to Bellerive to see the Devils play for the first few years - then look at upgrading or building a new facility once it is clear it's what we need.

Bowing down to the wisdom of the AFL's advice, thanking them for the privilege of being under their greasy collective thumbs - without checking your 6 - feels like the worst of ideas.

Even Rucci said last night on his radio show that the Tex suspension was too severe, the Clarko one was too light and so the AFL might use this incident to set a new standard. Given this basically falls in the middle, his theory stacks up.

Yes, obviously it's homophobic. That's the whole point.

In this context, particularly with the word he used yes it is.
