Way overs but was always going to happen.

There is an argument that a number clubs had a really good go at trying to get him offering big contracts. Essendon, Hawks, Port, Sydney and others were prepared to almost sell the farm for him.

So given this is now the most compromised draft of all time..what are our options? Do we somehow trade picks 20 and 23 to Gold Coast for pick 11, and then package up 10 and 11 for something higher up the list (keeping then 1 first rounder and a 2nd rounder as our only two live picks?) Getting seriously confused as to whether there is any ability to do anything in this draft, particularly as our highest pick could in all reality end up being something like pick 16 by the time father sons / academy players are done..

This isn't even top 3 for compromised drafts. It's looks to be similar to the 2020 draft in terms of compromised though.

The GSC/GWS expansion ones take the cake for that.

make a strong point..but I guess that was for expansion clubs entering into a draft and having to start somewhere! This draft is now just designed to make GCS and NM competitive again....although given the high first rounders they have had over the years seems a very flawed bit of logic...

pick 3 for a genuine spud is beyond my brain capacity

I wouldn't have a problem with it if the calculation they use was public information. Just reeks of ready-made decisions without transparency or scrutiny.

If there were a clear set of rules that everyone knows and understands, which isn't adjusted to fit a particular situation, and McKay genuinely fits within band 1, then fine. North are shit, and that is just how it goes.

But at the same time, North should not be getting hand-outs when they have already benefited TWICE from being shit (high pick, plus high free agency comp).

It is just a shitshow.

What utter s**t, he's not worth pick 3 and shame on Essendon for paying him enough to trigger band 1 two absolute pathetic clubs
Essendon apparently had the most cap space of any club... but crazy to fill it up by paying crazy money to an average defender.

Lol, AFL is deliberate with it's lack of any transparency.

How else can they apply their special herbs & spices...

Absolutely. Purposefully not codifying laws so you can manipulate every individual situation to suit your desired outcome.
Can you imagine our law courts not allowing precedents... well that is exactly what the AFL does with it's tribunal!

I feel like essendon have been using this tactic for a long time now (heavy on the trades of okay players) and it's a bit crazy that they continue given it's not getting them anywhere.
Pity for Dodo that trading is only 1 aspect of list management...

Makes me wonder, are other sports like this? Maybe someone else could chime in. Does the NBA, MLB, EPL etc. just make it up as they go? I'd feel better if I knew this kind of bullshit exists in other sports.

AFL encourages corruption.

Why else are they in bed with the betting agencies...

If they released the formula, then clubs would just game the formula to get the outcome they need.

Instead, it is left to Essendon (whose coach is the former AFL's football chief and oversaw FA compo picks in his previous employment) and North (who said former AFL football chief previously coached) to do an arms length deal with no knowledge of the formula whatsoever

I can't see the issue here

When we got pick 19 for Doedee it was obvious Norf we're getting pick 3 for McKay.

I reckon us getting pick 19 was also dubious. Probably part of the compensation for the Sydney loss.

We would not get pick 19 (or its equivalent) in a trade.

So we’re only 12 points off the mcelland trophy. AFLW wins are worth 8 points with the girls unlikely to lose anytime soon. Potentially the Sydney game is gonna cost us $1 million now as well as missing finals.

The Melbourne girls side may not lose another game for the season unless North or Brisbane upset them. Also we could also drop one

But it had to be signed off by North's ex-executive who's replaced that ex-coach at the AFL!

Also I didn't realise Laura Kane was 33. Had a rocket strapped to her career-wise.

And we better not be bottom 8 when Tasmania come in.

No, we're in a much bigger crisis than just dealing with an expansion side if so.

After all - that means we're well on the way of wasting our window.
