Apparently things came to a head after big losses to Collingwood and Port

JL wont like the sound of that
Good. Another big loss coming up, can't wait to see the back of this bloke.

Do tell who’s going to be the next coach?
Another untried, unknown commodity?

This list is overrated. Honestly think this is where the list and experience should be. 10th-15th range.

List management are fools for thinking it should be top 4

It is over-rated. I am not quite as harsh on it as you. I have it between 8th and 12th with a goalkicking small forward, a genuine bigbodied midfielder and a decent transition wing requried to step up to the next level.

At least two of those things may come from the current stock.

But I doubt it.

Johnson can be that big body. However he’s 2-5 years away.

Switkowski and Schulz are too vanilla-hard working but just don’t kick goals. You’re right, someone like Pickett would be incredible. Ginnivan could be an option, regardless of his onfield acts.

Look at the forwards depth
Banfield turned from midfielder to medium forward.
Sturt hasn’t really hit his ceiling and may not.
Emmett and Corbett probably won’t get an AFL chance.

Damien Hardwick. If we had any balls JL would've been sacked already and we'd be in his ear right now. But we obviously have to wait one more week, which I'll gladly do.

You're underestimating the list, big time.

Unlikely to happen but would be very keen to get him over here as an assistant.

The Suns quelled the yearly mass exodus (other than salary cap f-ups) and he had a lot to do with that. Is highly regarded.
Gold Coast gonna Gold Coast.
Do you own a KFC franchise by any chance?

Schultz got 30 goals last year. There's less small forwards that do that than people think. To say he doesn't kick goals is simply false.

Had a very very poor month since the bye though so his standards are dropping quick. I'm backing him to get back to his best eventually even if it doesn't happen this year.

The irony is that had Hardwick been given the arse like you're suggesting for JL then he wouldn't be considered for the Freo job at all, given someone else would have won a flag with that Richmond side.

And Hardwick deserved to be fired after falling out of finals contention.

Man if he did get fired I'd still be interested in him, he's an upgrade on what we have now.

3 flags bro. That doesn't do it for you?

The hypothetical discussed was that Hardwick was fired end of 2016 when Richmond fell out of the finals race. You said you'd still want him now if that happened, so he wouldn't have three flags.

What is it about Hardwick's style of play or coaching that you like?

To me, it's that he has a generational talent in contention for the best player of all time in the side.

Even then it took until their 8th season together, when Dusty was 26 for them to win the premiership.

His peak coincides.

His average brownlow votes per game:
2017 = 1.64 (won the brownlow) [Won flag]
2019 = 1.15 [Won flag]
2016 = 1.14 - Richmond missed finals
2015 = 0.95 - Richmond 5th
2020 = 0.94 [Won flag]
2018 = 0.90 - Richmond lost prelim

Gap

2013 = 0.73 - Richmond 5th

We don't need a new coach. We need the best player in the competition.

eh just have to look at essendon this year, or melbourne 2019, progress and development is not linear and although they arent perfect comparisons (ie dons change coach, dees get a couple top picks we wont) theres still some solace to take in those examples imo

I wasn't the one who made the comparison if you read the post I replied to. The poster said Adelaide were having a similar year to us, the main thrust of my post was they had improved on last year and we hadn't and they had one more win and a way better percentage. Comparing us to them is being very generous in my view.

Losing a few players in that 23–27 age bracket was in hindsight a big loss. Mature, big-bodied players who can play 90% of games. We need some of those, who aren’t s**t.

We should win three more. I also wouldn’t be surprised if we jag a win against the cats in Geelong.

Agreed - as much as he was criticised here Acres was a big strong body and ran all day. He also helped Nod with his running patterns and positioning. Something I think has been a part of his form issues this season.

Logue would have been handy as well - feel for the bloke this week. Hopefully he gets back ok and gets another good run at it.

Adelaide are quite heavily reliant on a thirty three year old key forward they would have fired years ago if he didn't get that bad publicity right after he signed a contract extension.

He's on his equal 4th best season total of goals already this year. His second best average goals per game tally for his entire career.

Their next tier down isn't close to his output.

Absolutely not. Richmond are or were in a losing culture just as much as Fremantle.

People forget the end of 2016 Richmond loss by 100+ points at SCG. Watched that game at the time. Dreadful, gutless. That alone should’ve seen Hardwick sacked by the end of season Monday meeting, 100%.

Richmond hadn’t won a GF since 1980. Last won a final in 2001. Hardwick changed behind closed doors 2016/17 pre season. Personnel more or less the same.

Fremantle should be careful in thinking Hardwick can do the same.

Hardwick is overrated. He had a Peggy, Gale, Balme, Caracella (who devised the change in game plan), Leppa and McRae. He also had Prime Dusty to dig him out of trouble.

Hardwick is good, but he's not the messiah. He's just a naughty boy.

Leppa, McRae and Bolton are now coaching at Collingwood and look at them now. Sacking JLo is not the answer, the answer is to stack the coaching panel with better operators.

How long does David Mundy need before he takes up a stoppage coach position?

I agree and would also say we could say the same about our forward line and walters - not that he is having the season Walker is, but our fleet of smalls when it comes to kicking goals have dropped off significantly this season.

Yeah opposition sides have figured out how to block our first and second kick out of defense to remove those fast break goals out the back. We are still set up for them, but the opposition know they can commit every defender within 60m of the ball and leave the loose Dockers (usually Amiss) out the back because if the ball gets over the top they are being scored against no matter what - but if they can block the space that ball doesn't get over the top.

And here we are.

Well amazingly enough we have the current league MVP playing for us and it hasn't helped one effing bit.

Perhaps 1 player out of 22 is overrated

That knee injury has really reduced his output, it's almost like Brayshaw needs to be able to put out 110% of effort to rise above and have high impact games and at just 100% isn't burst enough.

We are missing a Dion Prestia. A nugget who runs all day, wins hard ball, gets on the outside and will kick a goal. Being the link from defense to attack. I think that should be Erasmus but he will need to bulk up.
