You see right through it. And now we wait for him to step aside in the days prior to the derby.
Surely the AFL would be on top of this? Isn't this circumventing the soft cap?

Give him a couple of HJ's on the cheap to lessen the pay out they have to give him when he gets the sack soon.

AFL doesn't care about wealthy club fans paying players outside the cap

Heard this on the radio this morning…..like Taylor has been saying for years, something very stench worthy at the Toast - soft cap manipulation to the extreme.
I’m sure Simpson always saw a future in flipping burgers and asking ‘do you want fries with that’???
How corrupt can this get…😕

Cripps, Cerra and McKay out, wouldn’t it be funny….
Confused Gary Coleman GIF

I don't have any first hand evidence of it but my suspicion was that this was the case with Matthew Johnson.

It was being suggested that Hawthorn were offering us an extremely good deal to secure the 1st pick on night two of the draft. Indeed they were mightily ticked off when Peter Bell knocked them back.
Hawthorn wanted Matthew Johnson desperately.

Karl Langdon was on Fox Footy saying the Hungry Jack's Australia founder is a massive West Coast fan and they are the only two Hungry Jack's franchises not owned by a member of his family, all jovial like it was some quirky little joke and not an incredibly obvious and massive rort of a salary cap

Not wholly owned... key detail. You can, with the right connections, buy into part ownership of a HJs with just $20 and then the profit distribution for that individual store can be distributed however the trustees (of the trust you have $20 share in) determine. Once the under the table term has expired the 99.99% ownership of the store trust vote to not allocate any profit to the minority holder forever more.

This is how salary cap money is laundered.

That wasn't the actual deal. Either hawthorn or freo spoke about it shortly after and clarified that the offer was closer to 23 and a f2 or something. I can't find the actual article though.
Call Twomey didn't believe the Hawks when they said it didn't involve their future first

I think the first was involved but Daniels chose his words carefully for max shock value while being truthful, there would have been something decent from Freo going back.
s_wd6 is correct. There was no first round pick from the Hawks involved here in their attempt to get pick 21 from us for matty J. The freo media team clarified this afterwards in the little mini series of articles they had post-draft describing how we landed the 3 players.

If the first was involved then our future first would have gone back to them tbh

We made the right call, that Hawks F1 ends up at Melbourne instead for Jackson (and our f1 would still have gone 100%), effectively giving us the same result but no Johnson

Absolutely made the 100% correct call in hindsight

It’s plausible if we had given the hawks f1 instead of outs last year in the jackson trade, we might have protected our own second rounder this year.
Still much better to have Johnno through.

Hungry jacks' sponsorship of the evils has caused me to boycott them.
Wifey wishes all liquor stores sponsored them as well

Yes, Hawks would have agreed for a swap because we didnt make finals in 2021 and no one expected us to reach finals in 2022. Pick 7 and 15 swap.As you said 7 will go to Melbourne but we might not have given our First this year in that case. So we may have pick 4-6 this year draft and even if they are as good as johnson , they will be 2 years behind in development.
