Wasn’t overly impressed with either side last night. We should be ahead of both I would hope.
Richmond like the same as before but older. Their top end players like Riewoldt and Cotchin are close to bottom 6 in their team now. The have a handful of decent players in that early to mid 20s bracket but nothing to fear. Hopper is ok. Taranto is an accumulator but not very damaging.

Carlton - starting to think Voss is a bit of a fraudster as a coach. Same same as last year. Massive question marks over several players in clutch moments again and no really clear game style evident.
McKay looks like he has stagnated a bit since winning the coleman or even gone backwards. The first red flag for me happened earlier this week when they gave 2 young draftees a start in R1. Not the type of thing you typically see in a flag contender. Those two boys would be in the VFL for the entire season at Geelong or Melbourne.

I though there was at least 6 players on the field last night across both sides that would not be in our best 22 for Sunday if they were available to us and that’s a good sign IMO.

Have both these sides in the 7th to 11th bracket.

That’s on their forward coach then. All of them have ability.
Nah, they are just ordinary players Motlop has some talent, but not quite ready yet. They also have Durdin who I think was injured. Not good enough either. I get mad for team balance reasons that we play too many small forwards, but our worst small forward trumps Carlton's best small forward.

Then there are Cowan and Hollands who show promise but should be in the VFL for a contending team. Throw in Newman, Acres, Silvagni, De Koning, Ed Curnow, McGovern, etc and they are reaching a critical mass of average players and too much left for the stars. More than half their team last night wouldn't crack a game for Geelong or Melbourne.

As for Richmond, I wasn't sure on them but on a small sample size I think they are past it. Older players aren't the same and were so good that they just can't be replaced. Taranto and Hopper were supposed to be the saviours, but they are slow and butcher the ball. Far inferior players to Lambert and Edwards.

Interesting that Stephen Silvagni wasn’t in the club/change rooms to celebrate his son’s 100th game. Massive honour. Third generation of the family to have played 100 games.
Stephen Silvangni is the Saint Kilda list manager, and according to Damian Barratt yesterday he is attempting to poach Tom De Koning with a Godfather contract offer. So I don't think he is welcome in the Blues changerooms.

Agree with this. I didn’t realise how slow Taranto is. He can have his 35 disposals a week - it wouldn’t bother me if I was an opposition coach. He’s not going to hurt teams too much

Taranto's GWS career showed he is a v.good as a part of your midfield mix, but he ain't the main man.

He'll be more like an O'Meara. The problem is: do they have a Brayshaw or Serong to lead the group?

What do you mean Vossy is a fraudster? As a coach, he hasn't done anything that points to him being any good as yet. In fact, history points to him being a mini-bus.

Or one of those wicked vans.

Probably not a good idea to get ahead of ourselves with the Cherra and Acres mockery until we see what we look like against St Kilda at the very least. You know Carlton are going to play their grandfinal against as as well!
Nah, in my experience you have to enjoy yourself as soon as it happens. With the amount of Sunday games Freo plays, you don’t get many opportunities to wait till we’ve played already and we’ve protected our glass house for a week.

On review, as soon as Carlton had their short kicking game taken away from them their stoppage team weren't dominant enough to even the clearances. They won more than their share in the bounce but the rest of the ground was Richmond's. Can't play a field position game and get beaten in the clearances around the ground. Carlton are lucky Richmond's connection between mids and forwards was so terrible.

Richmond destroyed them
Had so much more possession just couldn’t convert

I really do like watching Richmond’s game
So intense, ferocious tackling , move the ball at all costs .
Good defenders , good mids and good forwards .
Luckily for everyone they turn it over a lot so if you can capitalise on that you’ve got a chance.

On Carlton , Acres , Cerra …. I’m in the same boat .
Not knocking them till we beat them twice ( but it was pretty delicious watching Acres spud it up and maybe costing them the game)

100% - that's what Freo fans have to thrive on. It's all about the moment lol
