Really you are trying to compare this to the Sonsee hit?

Really??

The point is players from all clubs have had players do incredibly dumb things, at varying degrees. Wasn't as bad as Gaff's moment of pure insanity, but it's worse than a 1-2 week ban. Anytime you start swinging an arm or fist and it connects, you're kind of not innocent anymore. To your question, Hawkins swung a round arm and hit a player from behind miles off the ball. He was extremely lucky to only get 1 week.

Sonsee's penalty seems around the right mark.

The reason this is bs is because an Adelaide win changes so much for this weekends matches. If they were going to play out that final minute they would have to do it Wednesday.

That said no chance they play this out. Game is done and the AFL will back their umpires in (despite being hot trash all season)

The system that got us here was wrong but you replay the final minute of this game and then everyone will want every result overturned. And then there would be controversy from Sydney too.

IMO there's no win in the situation for the AFL but in the long term backing that the result of the game is the result of the game is their best move strategically.

You have got to be joking?? Gaff's punch was intended to be the body, and while sly, was a football act to try and stop Brayshaw running on. Unfortunately Brayshaw dropped his knees a bit just prior and gaff ended collecting him on the chin. Those sorts of punches happen reasonably frequently and usually pass unnoticed. Still deserved the whack that he copped. Sonsee's hit was cool, calculated and most definitely intended to hit the head, an act based on just pure malevolence. It was ten times as bad, do not want cheap snipers who resort to violent retribution when they get beaten in the game.

If he was aiming for the body he made a good job of hiding it, landing his blow squarely on the jaw as he did.

Don't see Brayshaw dropping his knees too much there. Or a punch anywhere near his chest.

You need to get your eyes checked - from that video you linked

Clearly Brayshaw bent his knees with his head suddenly getting lower. This was what he stated at the tribunal and the tribunal did not disagree, which probably explains why he only got a penalty at the bottom end of what the AFL requested. It was still a punch, it was still deliberate, it still hit the head, it was deserving of the penalty given, but if Gaff had tried to hit Brayshaw in the head, it would have been an air punch.

Straight up king hit.

There is SO much that is too subjective about umpiring and MRO decisions, it is actually starting to piss long time supporters off seriously, not just be annoying.

I don't want robotic stuff like a lot of US sports but surely we can do better. And don't call me Shirley
