Fans make way too much of this
I dont know if it is just fans that seeing that - it pissses them off

Because legend has it - that Mark Bomber Thompson after another Geel loss - and Geel being perceived as a losers club back then

That after a particular loss he tore strips off the then captain Ben Graham - for doing exactly what Cripps did - smiling - and shaking every opposition players hand after the game

Bomber wanted to instill a really ruthless attitude amongst the players - which he did successfully

What was that 20 years ago?
Worlds changed since then...

I see the poor optics but it’s considered old school thinking to today’s young men

won
I wonder if when Milburn knocked out Silvagni he also knocked the stuffing out of Carlton as well.

Probably a long bow to draw, but looking at their record after that game, and since 2001, Carlton have only made the finals 4 times, and "won" 5 wooden spoons (the only spoons they've won in their history).

Compare that to our record, and since 2001, we've only missed the finals 4 times (2002, 2003, 2006 and 2015) and won four flags.

So many Carlton fans would say who is Milburn, very long bow 22 years ago,

Their mids are top shelf- Dunkley is a gun. What a game. Bailey is excellent. Lions have enough talent all over the ground to be a contender again.
Daniher and Hipwood would worry me if I was a Lions fan. Particularly Hipwood.

The bottom line is - both clubs have basically swapped positions

We are like Carlton of the 70s and 80s - they got the 6 flags ( we are a couple shy of that - but Geel aernt finished yet ) annd basically in that 20 year period- barely missed the finals bar the odd year here and their

And unfortunately for Carlton and their supporters - is their past 20 years - they are exactly like Geel of the 70s and 80s - handfull of finals appearances - no wooden spoons in the 70s but some close shaves - inconsistent - an overated list-- and basically a fair bit of misery for the supporters

I try to be fair - but i much prefer Geelongs success - because The Cats have done it in the AFL era

You have to show some sort of sportsmanship after you lose - but Cripps their captain - smiling and yapping away to Neale i think straight after the siren

They have just had a terrible - shocking loss - i dont think Selwood would be acting like that - i think that type of loss would cut hard

Considering the early departure an the audible displeasure ... it might have been wiser to be aware of the the visual ... but things are differnt these days. Watching some of the Geelong Ess game ... and I think Geelong guys offer their hand to hel a Ess player up at times... was just so much different form the era I grew up in. For the players ist no as parochial as it once was .. players considered themselves all part of the circus

I'd say particularly Daniher. But it's more the backline that tends to give them the biggest headaches. Not so much last night.
Hipwood has no presence. Can’t see him playing well in a final.

So many of the players now are friends because they have played with and against each other through the various junior comps.

**** - but depending on how long this occurred before the first bounce, surely the game could/should have been delayed during treatment

Woman falls from Marvel Stadium second tier before AFL clash

Authorities have provided an update after a woman fell from the second-tier at Marvel Stadium before Friday night’s clash between the Blues and Lions.

A woman is being treated at Royal Melbourne Hospital after a fall at the Round 8 AFL match between Carlton and Brisbane at Marvel Stadium on Friday night.
Shortly before the first bounce, the woman reportedly fell from the second tier above the Brisbane supporters’ end of the ground, with first responders photographed behind the goalsquare.

Ahead of the fixture, Fox Footy reported the woman was conscious and being attended to by staff at Marvel Stadium.

“There’s unfortunately been a supporter injured in the crowd this evening,” Fox Sports reporter Drew Jones said on Friday.

“She’s conscious and being attended to by staff at Marvel Stadium at the moment, some talk she may have fallen from the second level down to the set of seats at the other end of the ground, we hope she’s ok.”

An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman told news.com.au on Saturday the woman was in a stable condition in hospital.

“Paramedics were called to a report of a fall just after 6pm last night,” the spokeswoman said.

“A woman was treated for lower body injuries and taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition.”

Victoria Police told news.com.au on Saturday they were aware of the incident and they believed the woman was not in a serious condition.

Marvel Stadium officials have been contacted for comment.

The woman’s age, as well as the cause of the fall, are currently unclear.

Fair enough. I mean Hipwood averaged 3 goals a game in finals last year as a CHF, so seemed to me to really step up. And will only improve. Body language can be a bit down sometimes, but good key forwards are hard to come by.
Daniher does nothing for them structurally imo. I would say a huge disappointment.

I'll back the Tigers in for a comfortable win against a fellow bottom 4 contender, but players back or not the old Tigers are dead.
Time will tell. They will be desperate to beat us, and they are not yet dead. Until we get our defence and MF in order (Bombers scored very easily against us last week), we can lose the next 2 games. We are lucky to have in form JC, Hawkins, Miers and Close.

Apparently happened around quarter past 6, so over an hour before the bounce.

Cheers - not that it makes it better, but it does make a difference compared with this line:

It happened like an hour before the game, or that's when we heard about it. She was stretchered away with a sheet over her. Was pretty shocked the game went ahead with no delay or mention.
