People crying about the snap despite it being the most effective kick in a game of horrible drop punts?

Think you need to start counting how many drop punts slide off target compared to the snap.

If this was a professional sport we would know the exact highest percentage kick for each situation and player. Instead it's still incredibly amateur when it comes to goal kicking.

Has a handover year in a premeditated coach succession plan ever NOT been underwhelming?

Note: I know Collingwood made the GF in 2011. But they still lost (being pedantic, I know)

I watched 10 mins of the footy last night and that was enough for me to declare that was one of the worst games of all time.

Despite watching none of the 2nd half, and only 10 mins.. seems like my claim wasn't far off the mark.

For me their change in game style where they're just trying to get handball chains going that aren't there reflects then not having the types of players to support it.

Wines, Boak, Butters are all great players But they're not burst off the mark sprinters. Moraes, JHF and Rozee can be but there's not enough of them. It gets to the forward line and Georgiades is good sure but the other tall is Soldo and after Rioli their smalls are DBJ, SPP, and Edwards. So if they bomb it out likely doesn't get marked and ground level entries don't get converted

It's utterly insane. It's really gutless and it just never seems to be good for playing groups.

Yeah that one handed pick up and dodge in the 4th was amazing. You need a group that runs together though not one guy.

Be interesting to see how JHF copes if Port do drop considerably now that their time competing for finals is coming to an end.
Coincidentally, the team he left is about to rise back up the ladder.

Life has a way of evening things out I guess.

Port's fundamental problem IMHO is that they have a great midfield on paper, but not so strong at either end of the ground (KPPs especially). So they basically need midfield dominance to set up enough scoring changes and to 'protect' their defence.

But Butters is missing, Boak almost at the end, Wines is getting ageing and sore, and JHF seemingly more of a burst player than genuine consistent mid. It's suddenly got extremely thin in there.

Aliir is on the wrong side of 30 and Ratugolea & Zerk-Thatcher are proving to be the very definition of 'journey men'.

You will never compete without quality KPD's. Look at Hawthorn. It's been in their DNA and they went out and brought in Barrass while stocking up on young key defenders at the draft.

I reckon the moment Todd Marshall suffered another concussion was the end of their chances. While never a star, he was the point of difference in their forward line. Averaging 5 marks and just under 2 goals per game the past four seasons. I don't think Lukosius plays the same way. He's much more suited to roaming up and down the flanks.

There's only 2 coaching succession plans that I can think of which actually worked, and a key reason they worked is that the guy handing over the reins, put aside any ego he had and understood his role was just as much about the now as it was about setting up the club for success, under its new coach... Seems a common link here
