Lol the irony of Riewoldt mocking someone for diving.

One thing that has started frustrating me for some reason is when commentators look at the best teams and say some random role player is their most important player. No Harrison Petty is not Melbourne's most important defender, experts trying to be too smart for their own good.Commentators and everyone else going off their nut about how good Melbourne is.
OK. We get it.
Let's hope that narrative is maintained into the finals.
We'll be a hard team to beat if we're the underdogs and spring a couple of surprises. I don't care how good they are.
Petty could be out for the next few weeks and they wouldn't know he wasn't there. One thing that has started frustrating me for some reason is when commentators look at the best teams and say some random role player is their most important player. 2001 EssendonIf 2008 Geelong didn't win it, no top team is ever safe.
2001 Essendon
Melbourne look like the Harlem Globetrotters when they're on song.
I don't think we're that good.
It's a shame . We need to pull off some tactical masterstrokes and hope their dream injury run ends at some point.
And do it on the right day.
No the earlier original Libba years were much worse when thy bit & scratched like dogs but I also hate them now.I don't think I've ever hated a football team more than the current Bulldogs side
This is the one that always gets me a bit more for some reason. Probably because it was Carlton that beat them. And 1999 Essendon
It’s quite humorous reading some of their comments. They still think they’d be a flag threat once 2-3 of their injured players + Dusty return. Delusional.Hopefully Richmond will fall off a cliff like we did after 2004.
Was going to say that. Still reminisce on the poetry of what the Crows did to them in 97No the earlier original Libba years were much worse when thy bit & scratched like dogs but I also hate them now.
Richmond were at the bottom or near bottom of the free kick receives during their best years,They were so good they took the umpires out of the equation.i would love us to be that good.Enjoying the Tigers getting screwed by the umps a bit. They had it there way for too long.
Would be an interesting move. Sharp to tag Langdon all day. We know he’d be able to keep up with him. May help stop Langdon’s massive influence to continually be an option for them. They are so well drilled on 2 way running. I think we'll be gassed after 2-3 quarters. We need Sharp in the line up permanently for starters.
That's how I recall it too - it was never like the Eagles or the Dogs. Richmond even (deliberately in some cases, like Lynch) pushed the envelope on their tackling and physicality, betting the umpire won't enforce it all. You could argue there was some favourable treatment there and it'd probably stand up, but getting away with somewhat dodgy tackles doesn't feel as obnoxious to the same degree of blatant ducking, throwing, etc.Richmond were at the bottom or near bottom of the free kick receives during their best years,They were so good they took the umpires out of the equation.i would love us to be that good.
Hearing Melbourne are still into him as well.Have heard some whispers that Eagles have been courting Robertson since the start of the season. Anyone know what his contract status is?
Up until Eddie et al got their mitts all over it, "traditionally" there was always two games on Anzac Day.Maybe I am a bit of a Traditionalist, I don’t know?
But, I personally believe that Anzac Day should be a stand alone, 1 game day to be honest.
100% this. Pre-emptive tackling was a big part of Richmond's much lauded pressure game. That's how I recall it too - it was never like the Eagles or the Dogs. Ah, the classic "hold on to a player's arm as he tries to win the ball". If he wins the ball, you've got a 50/50 chance of HTB paid by some oblivious umpire. If he doesn't win the ball, you can almost guarantee you'll never get called for holding the man (still true today).100% this. This one drives me nuts and is never picked up by commentators.Ah, the classic "hold on to a player's arm as he tries to win the ball". Take possession drop it straight away and get him for holding the man that way. This one drives me nuts and is never picked up by commentators.
It seems accepted now that you can be all over anyone trying to pick up the ball , holding his arm or his wrist , have your arms half wrapped around him , lunging at him before he gets hold of it so that he has no prospect of doing anything else if he gets it but fall to the ground . And then lock the ball in as if he's making no attempt to get rid of it.
Not only is it in direct contravention to what the rules actually are but it makes for a really ugly spectacle. And very difficult for the umps to work out what to pay.
No prospect of any of that changing any time soon. Like the other rules that don't seem to exist any more.
