Do you think that they will go chasing Luke Jackson and guys like Dev Robertson? They have a bit of form dropping down briefly and then rising up the ladder fairly quickly.
They have some good, but not enough, talent in the 26 to 30 age group. And apart from Oscar Allen (and maybe Chesser), no genuine A graders in their 24 and under age group.

Jackson would cost them too much at the draft table, and just compromise their rebuild through the draft.

Dev would be a cheap get. Young player out of contract, not in the best 22. Late second round pick at best, otherwise they just walk him through the psd.

I dunno. West Coast have done this "mini tank" before and rebounded quite quickly, mainly through getting quality players back from injury and at their best. The draft haul then becomes the icing on the cake.

They still have several good players under 30:

Ryan
Sheed
Yeo
Kelly
Duggan
Gaff
Barrass
Rioli

If all those guys get back to their best, there's several All Australians and key premiership players. Add in a couple of rejuvenated veterans, bring in some youth and maybe some mature aged types and they could climb back up.

I have seen this story before with West Coast, where they look like dropping off a cliff only to have a huge turnaround the following year or two. They are an incredibly well run club.
They don’t have a ruck ready to take over from Nic Nat. Allen is their only young tall forward, and no mids behind the ones you mentioned.

They would need to trade in 4 or 5 players in for a short term fix, and be back here in 3 or 4 years time, in the same predicament of little to no quality youth outside their best 22.

Meh. Remember how the media lauded the Bombers and their young guns after last year. Played well even when Shiel etcetera were injured. Now they reverted back to their mean, making Malthouse look like a fool for saying they wereflag fancies. Lobb and Tabener wont be enough to make significant gains in finals if their form holds and they make it that far.

Don't think we are far off. Bailey and Rayner will still continue to get better, Hugh and Berry likewise. I'm still big on Cockatoo's upside as well, but he will be a slow burn. Ashcroft will be a great get for us (hopefully). As the likes of Neale, Lyons, Zorko fade out, I would not rule out our ability to replace them with some ready made talent either. Good draft last year, this year and maybe next year, after that we very well could go back into trade and FA mode.

The club is an attractive place, we are playing finals, can recover players from injury and also develop them. Neale coming over and winning a Brownlow won't be lost on some players.

It very well could be a case of really good list management timing. We had a period there with lots of trades, now back to draft to top up the youngsters.
