Opinion North Melbourne Priority Picks Part 2 - 2023/2024

If we go 0-23, it sets a fairly high bar on the shitness required for a beginning of 1st round PP...

12/110 odd with a likely winless season thrown in for good measure, for 2nd and 3rd rounders we had to trade and a couple of mid-20s picks with caveats on predicted woefulness.

Competition integrity is paramount lol

dayne zorko could have a luke hodge like impact at north melbourne

Welfare gets you no where in life.

The real problem is no gun players want to come to the club. No matter how much money we throw at them, they say no.

Really should have relocated. Can't be competitive for talent in Melbourne anymore.
Could have had Josh Kelly at the 2nd bite. He's the only truly A Grader that would have come to Arden St. We would have had to have given up pick 1 in 2021 and trade to the GWS for JK to come. JK even was down doing tours of the facilities. We used pick 1 on JHF.

We need to get two or three handy experienced players and one or two leaders in until the likes of Sheezel, McKercher, Warlord and Dursma have a chance to develop.

Powell and X are coming along nicely but of our senior players only Larkey and LDU would walk into every other AFL team.

Goater and Kal Dawson have shown a bit but injuries haven’t been kind there.

Of the experienced players we’ve traded in Logue has been a win but again the injury curse has struck, Shiels did his bit last year, Fisher and Corr aren’t terrible but they’re carrying quite a burden and their limitations are getting exposed at times.

This is the hole we find ourselves in at the moment and we need to dig out.

Soft cap relief to get more development/fitness/specialist support staff would probably help to some extent along with salary cap relief to put forward the type of money needed to entice some reasonable players to North - no point in bringing in hacks.

Yeah fair point but surely an extra 4 or 5M over the life of the contract is swaying some players
If they want to do that I don't doubt they could offer heavily front loaded contracts with $2m yr 1, just to reach the salary cap floor.

The issue for North is that people want to enjoy their work, and theres nothing enjoyable about losing every week.

What they "need" are a couple of hardened bodies out of high performing sides, who can set standards and get buyin of younger players to uphold those standards, whilst providing some protection for their younger players (think Hodge to brisbane, Cross to Melbourne).

Who are those players though?

Lets say its a Macrae not getting games at the Dogs, he could add lots of benefit to North, so North offer him a nice grandfather deal $800k/yr for 3 (front loaded to 2m yr1 and 200k/yr 2 and 3).

However if Geelong come calling and say hey we think you can slot into our team and contribute to a premiership (for $400k/yr), how is a player who is committed to winning a premiership, and maintains high standards going to choose to spend his final AFL years? Trying for another flag at Geelong, or committing to changing the culture at a new club and knowing he wont see the benefits?

Bingo.

After all this time you lot are still bringing up his name?

Don't think their cap is particularly stretched, doubt its money that is preventing FA's going to North...
Who wants to go there and get hammered every week, unless the $ on offer are obscenely over the top.

North are the smallest fish in the biggest pond, no player who could make a difference is interested.

Josh Kelly had a look and said no thanks. Blakey another to make the smart decision about the same time. Both of those are a lot of seasons ago now. It's been steeply downhill since those heady days.

Clarko is not a drawcard coach. He is impulsive and erratic.

Just yolo it for Weitering and offer him $2m a year. Might stuff your cap but you get the big name.

I hope we at least ask the question but the reality is that a guy who waited until his 157th game to play a final is highly unlikely to move to the bottom team just 12 months later.

You had two PP's this year, you traded them away. The LAST thing you need is more kids, you actually have a good core of kids, what you need is experience, and the right experience especially. What's another kid, likely another midfielder in this draft going to do? You ALREADY have too many mids to fit in.

You'll be a lot better when Logue comes back for starters, still feel Comden should go back but I know North fans disagree on this so I'll leave it as that.

If Luke Parker joins us will you switch clubs?
