Are we rotating Garlett and Yarran to give them equal game time as first year players so we have a good look at both?

Yarran had the tracksuit top on at the end of the game.

Yarran needs to improve his match fitness and have a full pre-season.

Yet you can see that Yazz will be a beast at 22 with his body type and definition.

Yarran leapt at a ball on the wing in the first half and put his body on the line to tap it out to a teammate. :thumbsu:

Everyone bar Naitanui can go to hell as far as I'm concerned...

Garlett is another classy player who makes something out of nothing and pulls his kicks to hit his teammates after dodging opponents.

Browne, Anderson, Austin, Garlett, Warnock, Grigg, Johnson, Hartlett and Jacobs gives us some depth and the footy department some thinking music for the finals. :thumbsu:

Browne's kicks to leading forwards were neat and precise when he was in the middle and forward of the centre.

Yet his kicks out of the backline were just bombs into a gale.

Browne didn't know how to kick in these conditions.

Are we sure Browne is from WA? ;)

Browne had no fear to run back with the flight.

I'd rather develop Browne into a mid.

After watching Anderson play well, I struggled to recall the AFL player he was playing like with his pacy play and attacking runs off half back.

Silly me...

Anderson was playing like Andrew Walker. :thumbsu:

I wonder if Warnock has done enough for Carlton to trial him next week against Melbourne. I thought they would see where he's at against the Dees and test him out to see if he could take us into the finals.

But I'm not too sure at the moment.

I would take the punt and play him next week and see how things go. If he's not up to it then at least the club will be able to have a set view on his position on senior football this year.

Pfeiffer should stay.

Pfeiff was said to be shining in pre-season training reports, but was injured early on. Pfeiffer bodylined a ball beautifully and tapped it out to himself after going in hard. Pfeiffer isn't a good kick, yet he showed he has the nous and "football pace" to get another year on the rookie list.

If he isn't too old?

Looked OK on the half back flank against Bendigo.

Hill has some upside with his pace and should stay.

I'd imagine it'll be hard to hold a rookie spot this year with two Irish boys being signed up. You'd imagine we'd also look at other options in the rookie draft also.

Bentley, Pfeiffer, Ellard, Hill are going to find it difficult to hold their spots. Mind you, I like what Pfeiffer and Ellard have to offer.

AJ will be promoted.

Garlett and Jacobs certainties to be held onto - perhaps a promotion for one of those two?

huge goal from harts,
good from yarran early, went missing tho -maybe he did leave?
warnock did some good things
fisher........as someone said above, hopeless.

If we could combine Fisher's marking with Hartlett's boot then we'd have something. Fisher was ok, and is alot better than Hartlett generally, but he can't kick at goal on a good day let alone a day as windy as this. Harlett's got a boot on him but that's it. He has just a few more weeks at the club.

Seen enough from Warnock today to know that he has what is required to be an AFL ruckman. Won a few free kicks from simply smart play in marking contests, blocking his opponent's run at the ball. Tidy skills, great with the tap outs and a really good size. Looks like he is fit enough to play 50% of a game at AFL level.

I'd bring him in next week and play Kreuzer up forward. This guy is a weapon and we have to play him.

Not sure about Jacobs, Warnock has surpassed him quite comfortably after only a couple of games. He was murdered in the ruck today, even the intensity of the VFL was too much for him. He needs to lose some kgs in the off season.

Gold Coast has the first five picks in the rookie draft, so it will be slim picking in what is already a very weak draft.

I don't know if a first or second round pick will offer us more than Pfeiffer, Hill and Stanton, but I'd rather keep the players we've put some time into.

Carlton currently has eight rookies.

Joseph has already been promoted.

Ellard and Bentley will be delisted.

Stanton has a prolapsed disc and might not survive the cut.

I'd use two picks in the rookie draft.

  1. Garlett
  2. Jacobs
  3. Hill
  4. Pfeiffer
  5. Sheehan
  6. Tuohy

I think Jacobs has proved he has what it takes in the earlier part of the season before his injury that he has what it takes to be an AFL ruckman.

Have got to remember he, along with Warnock is making his way back from injury also.

Jacobs probably stands out less as he's not as athletic as the 206cm beanpole.

He will no doubt be on the list next year, the only question will be as to whether that's on the rookie list or not. Most likely will be retained on the rookie list as he was redrafted last season and is still eligible for another year.

Can't see Hill surviving ahead of Ellard as Hill hasn't been able to solidify a spot in the Bullants over the course of 3 seasons. I'd be surprised if he survived the cut. I'd also guess they'd stick with Stanton ahead of Hill as he's just a player in his first year with an injury.

Will be interesting to see never the less!

The goals only came from one side of the ground the whole game. They said it was a about a 5 goal breeze and they were right.
Anderson had good run and carry throughout the game but his disposals let him down.
Steven Brown clearly best on ground, not only did he rack up the possessions but he was clean with all of them.
Grigg fired up and looks like he really wants to play in the seniors ,Ellard played well, yaz looked nice and silky with his foot skills and Austin played well in defence and took a good mark in the 4th. Sauce played well in the ruck.

Warnock looked really good, it was my first time watching him play in the Bullants and i rekon Carlton should bring him up to play against Melbourne just to give him a run and so he can gain some confidence

Good win for the boys, Good to see Carlton have some depth and we have many options if someone gets injured that we can bring in.

Hill hasn't been able to solidify a spot in the Bullants over the course of 3 seasons./quote]

Given that Hill was playing U18 football 2 years ago, that's a tough ask. Both are 2nd year rookies; Lachie was cut after 1 season and redrafted. Ellard is 2 months older.

Pardon me, thought it was 3.

Even so, 2 years without solidifying his spot in the reserves - he's up against it to stay on the list.

Goal to Hartlett 7 point lead.

That was a great goal from the right boundary where it meets the 50 m line. It was a pressure kick in which he had to allow for the wind. At the time we were only 1 pt up and it sealed the win. I reckon Hartlett was in our best 6 today. I hope they persist with him as long as he can remain injury free?

I disagree, I reckon Sauce played a better game than Warnock. Sauce was better around the ground, and did some nice team things. Warnock held his own in ruck contests, but did nothoing around the ground?
