Is that you? Hands up
30 years ago, there would be more than a slight similarity. Today, not so much!

No Toby Green?Superstar. In this world of hyperbole, anyone who has a half decent game is suddenly a superstar. BS I say. There might be an AA squad of stars for example but superstars ... all of them.
A superstar is more than a star. Unusually gifted and influential, even for a star.
We are fortunate to have one. But how many others are there? 11 in total for mine and rarely would there ever be more than that and often less.
In no particular order

I wore no 8 on my back as a kidGJ I know it's out of Synch today , but we did have those hard nuts like the great Laurie Sandilands and Cotchins Father in law, Good Ol' Rick K.

No.No Toby Green?
I thought it was something of a footy tradition because I remember we did it for Jade Rawlings in 2004, when he kicked his first goal (of 7 that day) for us.Remember when Travis Cloke kicked his first goal for us in 2017 against Collingwood? As Joffa and the Collingwood mob behind the goal began sucking lemons, Cloke was mobbed by Bulldog players left, right and centre. This trend of mobbing a player after he kicks his first goal for a club is now seen quite regularly. Did we more or less begin this trend? Can anyone remember it happening to another player before we did it for Cloke?
Sadly for us those two players had very similar careers at the kennel.I thought it was something of a footy tradition because I remember we did it for Jade Rawlings in 2004, when he kicked his first goal (of 7 that day) for us.
No went to Freo. I do feel like we are very much in the cold with the AFL at the moment, our fixture, I.e playing the home team in gather round, thrown around Australia again, and how hard it is for a team that made finals but didn’t win one.Surely James O’Donnell gets the rising star nomination this week?
I thought the umpiring was a little ordinary in the VFL elimination final yesterday.
Some decisions had me scratching my head in disbelief. Did anyone else think the same way?
What intrigued me more was the absence of umpire dissent at some really bad calls.
I wondered how would Dougie, fossie and the boys back in the day handle these injustices. Then I remembered:

Even the players who have concussed our players, they all got off, unbelievable.

Dougie would've lost plenty of votes for his tirades I imagine . But he didn't need a brownlow to prove his greatness.Did we get any free kicks at all in the 1990s? Looking at that you'd think not.
Made we wonder about two things:
1. How many Brownlow votes would Dougie's tirades have cost him over his career?
2. Notice how the commentators called sh*t decisions for what they were? Just bad decisions, shockers, howlers or other words to that effect. Notice also how you hardly ever hear that sort of commentary from the bland modern day commentators? They might make subtle allusions but rarely do they say "that's plain wrong". Usually it's "nothing to see here folks". It's surely not because they don't have strong opinions on such things. I wonder if the AFL has put the frighteners on them? They weren't afraid to cancel Mick Warner's press accreditation when he probed a little too deeply for their liking so they do have some form on this. It wouldn't surprise me if there is a tacit agreement that those with broadcasting rights can only go so far in criticising the AFL. Well ... that's if you want to have a chance at the next broadcasting deal.
