I thought Simpson was being considered more for the type of role Bob Murphy filled. Simpson towards the end there became quite an advocate for player support when it came to dealing with social media and the like.
I really doubt he would move into an assistant coaching role.
I think Covid cutbacks would be at least some of the reason. Coaching his own team is good grounding too, even if in a rural league. Sometimes could even pay as much if not more as an AFL assistant coach role.

Wish we had their development setup. I reckon someone like Freddy would be a top 20 AFL player with the Geelong set up and development.
How much time do people need off? I know it's a stressful job but if he starts at Fremantle early November that's a 4 month break. A lot of people retire at 67 having never had 4 months off.
Fairly sure he mentioned having the year.
Does that include the "shit" eastern state, south Australia?

You take what you can get, I was made redundant at 29 at the end of my parental leave and got 9 months worth pay out and it coincided perfectly for when my son was born. If there's a chance to get a good block of time do it, might not happen again for awhile.

I realise he's been contracted for that that next year and he was in Perth all of this year, experienced at coaching at the top level and with GF's.
Dockers weren't interested this year or next?
