This is going to sound a little far-fetched but a family friend played golf with Charlie Walsh recently within a group of people, and naturally they were asking him about the Crows. I'll just do some dot points from what I can remember.

  • Kurt Tippett is staying for at least another 3 years. 3 years because that's the longest possible contract the Crows will offer anyone.
  • Pound for pound, Crows players are the strongest in the competition. He said its because of their work on the bikes and that the bikes are much better than weights because it saves strain on player's backs etc.
  • More on the bikes; they keep track of how much work the players do with the 4 golden oldies and Vince right up the list, but big Kurt is #1, having done 27km more than the next best player.
  • Taylor Walker hasn't been playing because he's a lazy footballer, but apparently he's much improved in this area over the past month.
  • The coaching staff are amazed by and very impressed with this young group, the players have far exceeded the coaching group's expectations for this season and the coaches are just trying to keep a lid on it.

This is awesome, thanks for this :thumbsu:

Hopefully Walker keeps his finger pulled out and puts in a massive preseason. Everything I've heard from people in the know says that he's 100% committed to doing whatever the club asks and wants to learn more and improve and not just rely on his natural talent, which is a brilliant trait for such a talented player to have :thumbsu:

FWIW I'm certain that Lynch isn't Tippett's personal manager, but works for his management company.

His actual manager was on KG and Phil Smyth's show a few months ago, but I can't recall his name now.

He said pretty much the same thing though - that Tippett was happy in Adelaide, buying a house at Glenelg, his girlfriend visited often and there were plans for her to move permanently in the future. He said it would be very hard to get him to move.

Yep i heard that interview as well and it wasn’t Alistair Lynch talking to KG and the General. From this article his manager name is Peter Blucher.

Reid, at the request of Tippett's Brisbane-based manager Peter Blucher, has agreed to put off all talks for a deal to put Tippett out of the Gold Coast's reach.

Ahh. I have met Peter Blucher a few times. He was Media Manager with the Brisbane Lions at the time.

Yep, that's the guy!

I think its clear that Kurt wants to stay here, but that doesn't mean that he will - it will depend upon how much he is offered to move and how we counter it at least to some degree.

I'm guessing that if he was offered $600K a year by GC he would accept something like $500K to stay with the Crows.

I am thinking Mistral or a Rob Gerard company may have a new ambassador come 2011 for a few hundred thousand dollars a year to make up the difference.

Actually, on this post, what is the reason that they say that Tippett is staying? Do they have some reason to be confident that the contract signing will go ahead?

I was the 3rd person along the grapevine to hear what Charlie Walsh said so I might not have all the details. But I think the general feeling amongst the club is that the lure of success with his mates, along with the professionalism of the club is enough to keep him here. Kurt has also implied this himself over the year.

I'll try to get a clearer answer, but I think we'll see a deal struck between seasons.

Also, the same family friend goes to both Crows and Power training sessions occasionally (he lives close and has lots of free time), and another point that he made is that at the Power's training they're all split into groups of players, with the Aboriginal players distinctly seperate from the others. He's been saying it all year, and there seems to be a dispute between S. Burgoyne and K. Cornes which causes some friction.

On the other hand he says that at Crows training all the players work very closely together and compared to Port, are always in a close bunch together as one big unit.

I think this just points to how close our group is, and also gives us a reason for Port's lack of teamwork when things are going bad.

A technically correct but woefully distorted comparison. You're crediting us with our win against Collingwood but not crediting Collingwood with their win against us.

Probably fairer to say that Collingwood's had two wins against the top five. We've had only one.

Carlton were 5th after round 21 I believe:)

Maybe Goody needs to sit him down (like he did with bernie) and put some work ethic into him!

I have a mate who knows the horse in passing and who managed to ask about the above from the "horses mouth". Let's just say that poetic license is very very very very rife in this post above.

I heard Triggy on the radio a few weeks back talking about opportunities outside of football like Chris Judd.... he mentioned something about the club having a few different avenues they could possibly go down.

Club is smart enough to sort some deal like this out imo. Employee his g/f as his personal assistant for 100k a year or something :)

That's entirely possible, as I said I didn't hear it first hand - I wish I did know someone on the inside. :(

That would be interesting, the crows don't have salary cap issues so if they didn't pay him that extra cash in his contract it would be on principle. This principle would be wiped out if cash was payed in other ways.

JR seems very confident to get the deal done at seasons end, IMO if Kurt is committed to stay he too will be keen to get the deal done and not go into the new season with all this speculation week in week out about his future

Been watching One Week and I reckon they've been pretty fair in their discussion. Laidley's in as a panelist and his analysis was pretty good I thought, and Walls even broke ranks from several other notable journalists by suggesting that Craig will have finals success eventually.
