On The Couch

I gave up on it after 5 minutes when Sheehan said that he wasn’t impressed with the Crows game. He said how many possessions were in the game and how many were contested. Highlighted that 26 of McLeod’s 30 disposals were uncontested. Does someone need to remind Sheehan that this is 2009?

I don't have fox, so didn't watch, but on the new One show "on a couch in Carlton with lots of Carlton people" or whatever it's called, they also highlighted that McLeod had the highest number of handball receives in the competition this week - and that that was a good thing for Adelaide.

Tippett was outstanding in the Sydney game. 3 goals, stack of well-placed hit outs and a lot of possession through the middle. On top of that, structure wise he allows us to play an extra running player and really stretches the opposition's defence and makes it a lot easier on Stevens, Hentschel & Walker.

I'm not sure I understand how he does?

Unless you mean that he's one of very few people who can fill his role and therefore doesn't have to work as hard at keeping it? (Similar to how Maric is all but assured a place in our side with only Griffin a chance at replacing him)

he was selected repeatedly last year in spite of his performance.

you mean in the pre-season? hardly counts.

hopefully we'll see some of that soon when it matters.

Yeah I was gonna say, Sellar looked enormous in Dubai...

During 2008 I said a few times that Tippett was a virtual passenger in the second half of the year. Yes he has potential and yes the dual ruck/forward role is a steep learning curve - especially for such a well-documented late comer to the game - but in light of his readymade size and the generous opportunities he's been given, he just has to start making serious inroads soon.

This is the year he needs to learn to stay in the game. I actually prefer him in Ruck, as I dont think he is a natural forward.

Just thought I'd talk about the 'On the Couch' last night.

Mike Sheahan tried his best to Craig Bash again, sayin he was crap and changing our gameplan is crap, after all this guy hasn't seen us play so could you argue with him?

But was promptly shut down by Hird and Healy.

He continued trying to say he's had time and what's the difference between him and Wallace, to whch Hird and HEaly shut him down again saying he did well when our window was open but as soon as it started shutting he's rebuilt very well.

Mike continued trying to bad mouth Craig but James and Gerard were very firm on their point.

Hird and Healy well done.

Mike......at least you're consistant.

Are you serious? He has already made serious inroads. He played really well on the weekend. Some of the things he did both in the air and at ground level were amazing for his level of experience. I have a lot of trust for him when the ball is in his area. I know he is a great chance of winning the ball whether in the air or at ground level. If everyone had his competitiveness we'd be looking alright right now.

In dyertribe's defence, the post you quoted was six weeks old.

Memo to Sheahan

The main difference between Wallace and Craigy

Crows have played finals in every year under Craig, the Tigers have not played finals under Wallace

The Crows winning percentage compared to Wallace

The Crows are actually developing players

Not to mention we are probably at the same stage of development, yet I would guess we would beat them most times.

I just love watching him get shut down.

Basically Hird and Healy implied that he didn't know what he was talking about when it came to the Crows. While most of us know this, it was nice to see a couple of Vics do it too. Watching his face just go blank when Healy reeled off all our young fellas was great.

I think Sheehan reads the headlines from the papers and then makes his arguments based on that. When he will actually watch a game or two and know our young players, then i might listen to what he is saying.

I know footy tipping is not always the best indicator of football knowledge, but Sheahan is so far off the pace this year he's got to be going for his money back for running last. If he was in my work comp, he'd be right down in the bottom 5% with the no-hopers and the ones who routinely forget to put their tips in.

Maybe if he showed an interest in more than 1-2 sides he might go better....

Didn't watch the show last night so just have it running in the background at the minute. Had to laugh at the exchange between Sheahan and Demetriou on GC17's access to uncontracted players. Went something like this:

MS: GC17 can sign an uncontracted player from every club. What compensation does the club get?

Surely EVERYONE who knows anything about footy (which admittedly may exclude Mike Sheahan) knows about the compensation pick by now.

AD: The club would get a draft pick, a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

That's just plain wrong. Draft pick yes, but for one thing the pick can be as early as early 1st round. Also no mention of the criteria for deciding what sort of draft pick the club would get.

MS: So if GC17 signed Nick Riewoldt, St Kilda would get a 2nd round pick?

Got the feeling MS was trying to give Vlad a chance to better explain himself to the people at home with this one.

AD: Well you'd hope St Kilda and Nick Riewoldt would work something out and it wouldn't come to that.

Uh-huh. Good explanation. Has he seriously not read the literature on GC17's concessions? I could have sat there and said "it depends on the player's pay, position in the club's B&F, draft position if they were drafted in the last 4 years etc, so if St Kilda were to lose St Nick they would get a very, very high draft pick." But no. Instead he came up with "it's unlikely so we shouldn't worry about it."

It was really difficult to tell who was more ignorant. The game's in great hands

This was Sheehans segment. Because Healy said after the break Sheehan wants to dish the dirt on Craig and the crows (or something similar). As soon as Sheehan started talking you could see Hird wanting to Jump in because he was talking dribble. As soon as they started talking about crows players Sheehan said they had some good defenders (but could not name them, then mentioned Mcleod, Goodwin, Edwards, and then said, and I quote " Have they got a ruckmen, and who plays forward."

Healy then proceeded to rattle off about a dozen lesser known players that we are developing. Including players like Sellar who have only played a couple of games. It was priceless to see Sheehans draw drop. But seriously he is on there for expert comments he should know this, particularly as it was his segment, he should of at least researched it,

Healy is fantastic and I also love listening to Hird on the show, he is very insightful. Sheehan needs to go he is an embarresment.

Healy and Hird form the best TV commentry team with BT on a Sunday afternoon on Fox.

Healy is probably the only not recently retired player (>10 years out of the game) who I rate their opinion. For a Victorian he is very knowledgeable about interstate clubs. He has actually given credit to Craigy numerous times for pioneering the zone we see today. Most interstate scribes like to give that credit to Clarkson.

Dont mind Brian Taylor. :thumbsu:Rohan Smith is a great boundary rider to watch but for all the wrong reasons. Dont think I have ever seen anyone on the Roger Smelly murder the English language like Rohan does week in week out. Its so bad its good.

Not sure about that. Did you ever see Drew Banfield on the boundary? That was like watching a train wreck.
