That West Coast trade has to be the worst trade I've ever seen. What a diabolical club they are at the moment.
In a supposedly deep draft perhaps they've identified 2 good kids that will go top 15 and think that value outweighs one pick. Its not like Carlton have a great history of nailing early picks. The next Paddy Dow could be on the way

Blues are killing it
Depends.

On one hand the trade is a win but...

With the list that they have 2 Coleman medalists, a 2 x brownlow winner, AA fullback, etc. they should be in the win a flag now mode. I doubt an 18yo draftee is going to push them to a flag.
If they can get a senior body in an area they lack then yes.

Hats off to the Blues list management team
Smelt blood in the water and they feasted in Eagles.

All these former Richmond people in these positions are really doing a number on their current clubs

Have they feasted?

They've just paid for Baker to arrive at the Eagles and the Eagles will likely end up a F1 and F2 to add to 12.

Sure it aint 3 but it's still 2 1sts left to play with and Baker is already secured. Owies for basically squat just adds to it.

Why can’t they win a flag now if they get a Nick Daicos type? Young mids can easily make an immediate impact and definitely help them get better next year.

Would you trade pick 3 for 12 and 14?
Think about it

Who is the Nick Daicos type in this draft? They are very apparent by now, which is not the case for this draft

This draft doesn't have a N Daicos, Sheezel, Judd, W Ashcroft, H Reid, etc. type available.
Lots of good players but no clear top tier.

Regardless, they could have picked up Baker and owies for nothing. They downgraded 3 to 12 for absolutely no reason. Shambolic.

If the Houston trade falls over, we could offer F1 to Freo for 11, which they'd earmarked for Baker.
That would give them 2 F1s to try and load up on the Chad next year.

Surely all afl players, including Richards, are looking at this and saying why on earth would I want to play for Port?
IF they are genuinely backtracking they wont just have players not wanting to go there, Paul Connors will blacklist them for a few years and make sure none of his stable move there

It's obviously contextual. They added 2 players who will immediately be best 23, including one in Baker who will be one of their better players. They are probably in a better position for Barrass negotiations, and are clearly eyeing having a crack at Warner.

I know, and media types like Edmund, Maher, Korn, Lyon never say they're barracking, yet you have Kane Cornes texting people at Port Adelaide to basically refuse the trade....🤣🤣🤣

A crazy development in the last few days has been media types suggesting “the fans of club XYZ aren’t happy with the trade”

WTF has how we feel got anything to do with it?

Us fans know SFA about draft and trade value.

We thought Jack Crisp was “steak knives”.

Never in our wildest dreams did we imagine that when we recruited Billy Frampton that we were recruiting a future Collingwood Premiership player.

And besides, we’re not a homogenous entity that has a singular opinion.

Footy media scraping the bottom of the barrel for something to talk about.

Agreed with the deep draft part - Carlton putting a fair few eggs in the basket of pick 3 becoming an elite player in the comp.

I think the other thing is - looking at the draft reports and rankings, the WA top talent doesn't appear to really come in to calculations until after pick 10, and West Coast have shown (Reid aside) a bit of a theme of wanting to target multiple home-grown talents when available to them.

They have time on their side and pick 3 could have a big impact. They’re looking after their now and future.

They're not though.

They're trading for 12 and a known quantity in Baker who some tipped to be the next Richmond captain. They've added a 30 goal small forward in the process also for zilch.

Importantly they now don't have to use any compensation for Barrass to obtain Baker.

If they end up with some local kid they're keen on at 12 even better.
