If we could punt him to the USA then sure.

But to play football - no thanks.

The only reason he is being considered for another chance is because of his draft number.
Heaps of good AFL players that were said as being gone.

So off our senior list of 36 are Murphy Noble and Richards
If Kreuger and AJ are delisted (one may be rookied) then we are down to 31
Add Harry and Dan and we are 33
Leppa says we use one spot on a DFA tall. Need 3 picks in draft. Maybe Fin or Reef delisted and re rookied too?
Leppa said also they will meet tomorrow to make list decisions on all the rookies and out of contracts. Said they will have to make some tough decisions on the rookies

Free agents in general I don’t doubt, but the most expensive ever is a different story. I’d be chuffed if proven wrong, but at it stands it is hard to imagine we could find the room for one that will be almost impossible to extract anyway.

Sure, but if you remember that $1.5M a year is the new $1M a year it won't be the money so much as for restricted free agents the current club can match

The key being good. From the times I have seen him (although that was up forward), good is not the first word that comes to mind.

The fact that Hawthorn tried switching him up forward even though they had a lack of tall defenders says a bit imo.

A solid tall defender is what I'd be hoping us to find as a FA.
That would be nice, but the pool on them will be slim I think. I’ve got Weitering as the only option I certain of. Andrews was never a chance, but just re-signed anyway. The last three I can think of who qualify in terms of tenure are Buckley, McCartin and Melican, but I don’t know their contract statuses (it’s unlikely all three are OOC). I’d be more inclined to poach one by trade.

I agree I don’t see it being an issue for retention and attraction of most, but each of those losses is offset by the additions of Houston and Perryman plus increased contracts to the likes of Hill, Cameron and Maynard. With a strong 2025 LDU is going to be the highest paid player in the game in 2026 and those losses simply aren’t taking us to that level. I’d be more inclined to set my sights on Richards.

Why Dont We Have Both GIF

Just re-listened to Leppa and a few key takeaways for me (outside of Houston)

  • mentioned they considered doing Noble as a stand alone (mentioned getting a late 20s pick)
  • expects our 50s picks to all come in about 10-12 spots in the end
  • is a deep draft and expect to still get some good talent there
  • no holes in the list for the now!
  • talked up Perryman adding to our mid field mix as well as Ed Allan
  • excited about TJ and HDM (bullish about our youngsters)
  • possibility of adding Membrey, will put him through a medical. Opportunity to add some experience.
  • ruled out making a play for Dev or anybody else
  • Fin Macrae - they will back him in & confident he can still be a player. There should be opportunity for him to grab a role.
  • Bytel - non commital on him (and other rookies). Some difficult decisions will need to be made.

Weitering just extended for 6 more.

I remember. Do you really think LDU is going to be gettable for $1.5m if that’s the new $1m? North will offer him $2m, IMO.

No holes in the list? Membrey is fine as an addition but what about a key defender? That’s a massive hole
