Apparently they both told Heidelberg at the start of this year it'd be their last year (and they'd head back to Wang), but until they've signed I'd have my reservations about it happening..

They'd be boom recruits though - Danny's won a couple of b&f's at Heidelberg (maybe a league medal as well), and in my opinion would be in the top 5 on-ballers in the O&M if he ended up there.. Dale is a super athletic 6 foot 5 key position player who can play at either end. In a GF 3-4yrs ago he took 12 marks in the last quarter and ended up with 20 for the match! Both have been revered as 2 of the genuine guns of the Diamond Valley (now Northern League) for the past 5yrs or so, but the depth of competition isn't as strong as O&M.. Though I'd love to see Heidelberg take on Albury!
and perhaps the winner could play belconnen!!

Cheers solatium :thumbsu: Every year sides 'splashing the cash' is a widely debated topic in country footy circles, particularly on bigfooty.com.. I've always been of the opinion that if clubs have the cash and can get the players to commit, then good on them. Mooroopna's an interesting case in that they're losing local players (who play for a minimal fee), because they're against the idea of the club paying for high priced recruits. I imagine not all O&M bigfooty readers would check out the GV site, but Mooroopna have signed colossal Heidelberg big man, Mick Gay for a reported $45k, which I'm lead to believe, is true.. Obviously Albury & Yarra splash out the cash as well, but I doubt any O&M players would be on that amount.. And whilst he's an out and out gun, my view is that he's not worth anywhere near that amount and they should've chased a Kayne Pettifer or Daniel Harris instead.. I wonder what they'd be prepared to pay Joel Mackie..

Sorry to keep talking GV Footy but I think you'll find the figure for big Mick Gay has been no doubt plucked from someone's behind. Mooroopna have been in desperate need of a quality ruckman for a while but I doubt whether the club would risk that much on one player. No doubt they've been forced to make him a good offer but I think 45k would be a bit rich. If you were to pay 45k, Harris or Pettifer would be fantastic. They are no doubt having a go, but I think everyone is these days. As for the local players who left...they left for big dollars, so if the reason they left were true, they would be doing the exact same thing to another club.

can confirm that mick gay is on 45k barkyboy have been told by his best mate who plays at heidy who also is originally from the shepparton area in kennedy trust me it is a known fact. the locals that left you are right, they are chasing big dollars to, its a vicious circle my friends $$$$$$ is what most people only think of these days and good on them for doing so, if your good enough and clubs want to pay it then why not jump at it? but by f@#k you would want to perform week in week out for that as critisism can mess with ones head!!!

also im from melbourne and just wondering how the o and m league compares to the northern footy league for those who have seen both.

hard to say i think o&m but personal opinion i guess, country sides tend to gel better but you really cant tell maybe a side should hook up and play a side in northern footy league in a pracy then will know?

Hey mate, I've watched a fair bit of both over the last couple of years.. What makes it hard to compare is the difference in the size and quality of the grounds - the NFL has tiny grounds (in comparison) which makes their games a lot more contested and congested. O&M on the other hand, have quite big grounds played on exceptional surfaces, so the games are a lot more free flowing. I remember speaking to Dale Carmody (who is a premiership player at West Preston and also Wang maggies) and he said when he came back to the O&M he had to drop 15-20kg in preparation for the extra running he'd have to do..

All things considered, I think O&M is stronger and a lot more even, but NFL games are probably more entertaining - the games seem to be a bit more passionate (and always a chance for a bit of biff). In my opinion a game between Heidelberg & Albury would be a toss of a coin decision, but Heidelberg are daylights ahead of thier closest rival

Yeh, Barkyboy, I'm siding with gorillaman on this one - got a lot of mates at Heidelberg and they've all mentioned that same ($45k) figure for big Mick.. If they've got that much $ and think he's worth it, good luck to them.

Yeh i daresay the nfl would have the smallest grounds in australia, but i agree that heidelberg would go alrite obviously, but there is definately daylight second which has taken a bit away from the comp.

My view is O & M quicker/more open, NFL more physical (partly due to the smaller grounds).
True about Boof Carmody - was a fair bit larger in his DVFL days, however he still managed to win a comp B & F (2nd division) before his move to the Maggies.
Latest mail is Dale Nolan is not moving to Wang Rovers, brother Danny still undecided.

Jez O'Brien named assistant coach at Yarra.. couple more big signings looking likely for the loft..

Hey Anyone,

Been out of the country for 4 weeks.

I heard Bulldogs signed Brad thompson for 2010. Anyone know if Hayden Heta will be returning?

Cheers

i've heard similar, couple of the recent signings might be about to be offset by the departure of at least 1 and possibly 2 quality campaigners for the dogs

also heard earlier today that wang rovers have signed brendan sessions from tarrawingee in the O&K so they look like having a presence in the goal square next year. and talking of O&K same bloke told me that karl norman is a chance to be leaving rovers and heading to glenrowan? surely this couldn't be right? anyone got any info on this possible move

and all seems quiet over the road at the norms minns so far in the pre season. any snippets around on the maggies esp whether hoooper is staying or heading to sunbury with smith?

Nick Raines is outta their...

raines was also the name i heard mentioned as being as good as gone from the kennel for 2010. not sure on the details but involves some off field matters allegedly. was told there may be another on the way out with him but no name mentioned

to the poster inquiring about kirby and cosgriff returning to wang i understand that cosgriff will definitely be back there in 2010 as will another premiership player in trenfield. this was being mooted some time ago but dunno whether they have actually signed as yet. haven't heard on kirby

Not sure about Trenfield, believe he has re-signed at Balranald with his brother.

So thats confirmed - whats the details regarding his move??

Would say that with wodonga's signings so far they are the team to beat in 2010? look like the fav's considering albury's losses so far...

Wodonga Favourites????? They have picked up two rippers in Thompson and Heta but they have lost Laracy, Lewington and now it appears Raines. For me this seems like they have remained consistent or if anything lost ground. Albury still in the drivers seat with Yarra.

Seems like there are some very quiet clubs about at the moment, anyone aware of any signings or signing rumours?
