Saying the goal umpire should have hit the post before he signalled a behind in the last quarter when Shannon Grant hit the post.

Ox, if you had been watching football at all last year, you would have known that this has been common practice for a while now. The goal umpires are instructed to signal a behind, then tap the post.

Come on, if you are going to be a special comments man, at least sort of know what you're talking about

Yer i noticed that and thought the same thing!

Also how about his Jobie Waan Kanobi Watson call?...dead silence after it by the other commentators

What a stooge!

Blew his load after a goal from Davey. Bruce commentated "that was special".

His other piece of insight today was to proclaim "this is a game of football"

Did anyone else think Dennis and Bruce were really giving him crap the whole time? I couldn't really tell if it they were just mucking around or actually giving him shit...

in the space of five minutes, he stated that essendon's tackling from behind was atrocious, then that they are an excellent tackling from behind side, then changed his mind again and said their tackling from behind is terrible...i almost turned the sound off so i didn't have to listen to his dribble...

I really don't like listening to him. When he painfully struggles to construct some sort of profound observation on the state of the game i shudder.

Kangaroos player hits the post from a set shot in the last quarter

Ox: "Well, that pretty much sums up the Kangaroos day, doesn't it?"

NO IT DOESN'T. It would have summed up their day if he had have hit the post, then the post cracks in half and falls on the Roos player because he isn't quick enough to move out the way and none of his teammates are warning him that he's about to be crushed. Then the post would have to tap Lloyd on the shoulder who falls over winning a free kick.

LOL. I noticed that comment as well. He also stated that "this is a game of football" as well. Classic comments.

Funny stuff!!! :D

Was not the case today sunshine.......

Never struggles to amuse me.
Longergan runs into a tackle, "GONE!" then the next thing you know Lovett - Murry has the ball and kicks a goal.
Or when A Kangas player kicked the ball to Petrie who was standing behind an Essendon player. "You know that isn't an easy kick. Not only do you have to kick it behind the opposition player but you have to kick it into space"
Captain obvious saves the day!

Someone might wanna mention that when something good happens, he doesn't always have to go "Awwwww" or "Oooooh" or laugh as if he has seen something amazing. Drives me crazy.

I know there is a lot of love for Dennis on these boards, but I don't think he has a clue about football.

The other thing bout Ox is his criticism of umpiring decisions.

We all get in umpire hate mode when where watching football but his level of criticism reaches the ridicules. Its like he thinks an umpire is always going to be wrong so therefore when a decision is made he goes against it, including some absolute obvious ones that no one else is arguing about.

It did seem that the other commentators were taking the p!ss with him.

Thought his worst comment was " That's another push in the back from behind"

That said, a 'special comments' commentator's job would be not be easy at the best of times, let alone alongside someone as knowledgeable and humourous as Cometti.

Congratulations to Essendon for a good win and entertaining football.
