They're playing better in this last quarter but missed a couple of easy goal., Its plus 30 inside 50's to Claremont and lopsided free kick count too.

Peel played rubbish in the bits I have watched. Overuse of the handball.

I can’t understand why Knobel doesn’t play in the seniors. Reidy has been beaten by Eastland today but the issue is when they put Tragenza in the ruck. Honestly they get slaughtered in the middle with Tragenza as ruck. He is your old school lead out full forward. I don’t even think he is great at that because he is too slow. If they had Knobel playing seniors Peel would at least have a point of difference ruck when Reidy is getting beaten.

Cooper been playing a bit more on ball but just needs to get more involved. Posters saying he needs to be playing AFL just because need to watch some Peel games because whilst I like what he has to offer he just doesn’t get involved enough.

Emmett has been in some centre bounces in this last quarter. Cooper had a free kick against him in the 3rd quarter for a dangerous tackle but I don't think it was too bad ie. should be no suspension. Think he's also having a bit of midfield time this quarter.

No Sturt no Peel. Plus the defender who got drafted in the MSD.

I wonder if they’re sitting on Erasmus. He’s been massive lately.
Claremont definitely tagging Erasmus. Very close tag.

Also lots of holding onto Brodie off the ball. Brodie getting really frustrated and the reason for a few of his handballs going amiss. He is being scragged and held before he even gets the ball.

Lopsided free kick count is an understatement. Something like 23-9. Also at the very end their ball kicked out of the backline from Claremont defender to Western and he was miles out of bounds and cheekily jumped back into the field after marking. The umpire let it go.

My brief take on each of the players against Claremont 1/6/24
  • Reidy - well beaten in the ruck, can't help but agree with Superkoops assessment for today at least
  • Brodie - lots of the ball but disposal was awful
  • Erasmus - lots of the ball but not as much as Brodie, disposal was below average but probably better than Brodies.
  • Emmett - brought speed and intent and poor ball use.
  • Simpson - Playing a lot of time in the midfield, didn't get enough of it, disposal was okay but well below his normal standard. Kicked two points.
  • Delean - Totally blanketed and missing, couldn't get the ball
  • Worner - Hardest trier, kicking was ordinary at times but he put in a performance that would get him noticed
  • Voss - Still suffering hangover from last week's game, exposed in terms of speed but still kicked two goals.
  • Hughes - better than his last game, was clearly trying to move the ball faster and disposal was better than many
  • Davies - I thought played well whilst the defence was under siege time and time and again.
Agree that the free kicks seemed to impact us at crucial times.

Bye next week?
If so, I wonder if that might help to refocus the team, especially with the MSD departures.

Not sold at all on the way we use the Peel reserves and seniors to feed and build players on a pathway of development.
We seem very spotty and hit and miss in when and who we send up from ressies, and what they are asked to do / work on when they do get to seniors at Peel. Not sure why, might just be a lack of execution, but from outside there really doesn't seem to be much planning or structure around who and when we promote.

Sticks out when you watch reserves and seniors from sides like East Freo, Woodville, Williamstown, Glenelg, West Ads, etc. We just seem to lack a structural progression plan. Might just be injuries perhaps, I dunno.

Good Summary. Also my comment about free kicks isn’t an indication that was why we got well beaten (I know you didn’t say that either). Whilst lopsided and some free kicks especially holding the man was missed for Peel, Claremont were easily better, more committed and consistently first to the ball. Peel and many of the Freo boys looked like they were planning their bye week/weekend.

Really hope the same isn’t the case for the AFL side.

I think the WAFL could help Emmett to increase his skills and confidence

Only watched the last half on streamer and agree with all of the above comments
Posted the other week we need to get games into Knobel in the firsts as Reidy will never be AFL level (prefer to get games at senior level into the younger player who has a potential upside)
Reidy was absolutely pansed around the ground in marking contests with Eastland
Also wonder if Ras and Brodie are just going through the motions as they know their cards are marked (unfortunately both players give effort but are below average kicks)
To promote back to the seniors i thought Voss and Worner, not perfect but showed some real effort and intent
Davies gives sound effort but his disposal by hand or foot is poor, but he is young and has time to improve
Hughes kicking disposal was pathetic at best surely need to delist at end of year, Sellwood as a young player with growth potential is better but not sure if JLO or Walls etc would ever agree

Warner was not too bad. He often received the ball from team mates under the pump. Not sure if it was him calling for the ball or just a matter of deferring the pressure onto Warner.

I also didn’t think Erasmus was terrible. Made a few errors by foot but was being tagged heavily. Otherwise I saw him hit a few targets. He seemed to be less prominent at getting the ball out of stoppages. Claremont did their homework and really dominated the clearances whilst nullifying Erasmus and Brodie.

We saw Henry come into his own after the bye last year. I’m hoping a good back half of the year will set up Erasmus for next year.

Reidy has been good the past month or so, but today well beaten by the state ruckman. The three best ruckman I’ve seen in the WAFL this year would be Reidy, Eastland and Teakle. Teakle and Reidy shared the soils in the first round. Today Eastland was the better ruckman. Reidy generally been very good in the centre clearances and not so good around the ground but today got well beaten everywhere.

Pretty sure Freo has Erasmus in the queue as an inside midfielder. They are giving him an extended period of development to knock as many of the flaws out of his game as possible and he would be well aware of this.
After the Adelaide trip where he got screwed (played one quarter of AFL footy and 0 WAFL in 2 weeks), seems we're focusing on maximising his development time.

That being said, if we get Warner you'd struggle to see where Raz fits in. I thought it might be that Young eventually moves more outside. But right now, his pure inside midfield work is great, especially for how new he still is to it. If anything, you want to try to find ways to combine that with more opportunities to use his elite kicking.

Fyfe is probably in his last year. Next year with another preseason Erasmus will get games.

you are probably right, but after today I feel like we might be able to squeeze another season out of him (even if he is only selected for a few games or as a sub)
A lot depends on how he goes for the rest of the year obviously and how his body is feeling but I think Fyfe will pull the pin if he doesn't think he can match it the way he wants to.

The one thing I want most for him is to overcome his mental demons with goal kicking. I feel like if he could find his way through the block he has in front of goal he would really start to enjoy himself again. When he's at his best he plays with real love for the game. I have wondered at times why he doesn't really fly for marks anymore, if its purely physical limitations with his shoulders or he's lost his timing.

A run home where he was able to take some big marks again and finish his set shots and I think he could retire happy. Especially if we play finals.
