Lol some of the comprehension of some of these blokes is worrying.

All of this talk about flight risk/not a flight risk but WCE fans can't answer the obvious question, why would he want to stay in Perth?

If he turns out to be the player we all think he'll become, why would you stay in Perth if you were him? The answer is you wouldn't. Now don't get me wrong he may tolerate being in Perth and have a level of loyalty but being in Perth would not be his preference. This is obvious and this is common sense.

Thus, he will be a flight risk. Just look at Luke Jackson, he won a flag with us and he still went home. WCE is going to be a poor team for a few year. Where is the incentive for Reid to extend?

He might really like it? Hang shit as much as you like it's a pretty good place to live, especially for a kid from the country. And if he's anywhere near as good as what is being said, he'll be the king of the city and in 2 years not many teams will have as much cap space as WC will.

You do also know there are many many people who dont live in the state they were born?

Perth is actually a great city. After attending the GF in 2021 my wife and I thought about moving there we loved it that much.

Whatever decision Harley makes has nothing to do with the city. For every Chris Judd there is a Matthew Pavlich or Will Schofield who love the place and decided to call it home. I hope the Eagles draft him.

West Coast would have a 90% retention rate of interstate players I would guess.

When we avoid players due to the threat of "homesickness", it probably isn't just the risk of them leaving that concerns us. There is also the risk they don't have the mental capability to play at the highest level. Or at least to reach their full potential.

Yes but those risks also apply to local talent with high expectations; yet i have not seen this much expectation a kid who has never played. Hopefully once drafted the media will leave him alone.

Cant see Melbourne giving up JVR

They need KPFs that are ready to play. They have no one else. Brown, TMAC are done/no good. Jefferson makes Nik Cox look big

And cant see eagles accepting 5,15 and F1 for 1

Its hard to see how Melbourne get in the picture

Melbourne are in the picture. In a big way.

They have been active on pick 1 all season.

They have two 1st rounders and the player to trade to offer a compelling offer.

It's all about how much they are prepared to give up to get Reid. Because they have what it will take.

JVR will simply never be offered up for Reid.

If we want Curtin this is what will happen imo. Eagles supporters will want more in the deal, North supporters will just want Eagles to take Curtin with 1.

But it would end months of trade and draft distraction, Reid gets the adoration and the NAB financial benefit of being the first pick, and its done out of respect between two clubs who have a good relationship.
Yeah agreed. West Coast/Rohan & North/Brady have a really good relationship, posturing aside. It's their relationship as well as McCartney that got the Mega Deal done.

Yeah I think drafting around the go-home factor is cowardly. Melbourne have found so many guns out of WA recently and despite Jackson leaving we've been well compensated for it. I think Curtin is the 2nd best player in this draft and if he somehow fell to Melbourne or we were able to trade up for him I'd be over the moon.

If West Coast were to end up trading pick 1 they should do it because they think it will improve their list, not because they're worried about a kid walking out on them.

1. WCE aren't a minnow club like Melbourne and Perth is a far better place for country boys to play, that's why they never leave.

2. Melbourne will likely pony up GC's first, Greo's first and JVR if we do trade, so its a win either way.

haha 4, 5 and JVR .That just about takes the cake. if we're handing over JVR then we'd be getting back Ginbey and Hewett.

Maybe the Dee's learned from Carlton's trade for Judd.

End of the day Dees will need Gold Coast pick 4 added to Freo's 5 to get a conversation.
I think the only way JVR could possibly be on the table would be if we had another gun key forward at the club. He's is just too important our structure to involve him in any trade.

If we can't get our hands on pick 4 then I think our best move would be to see if North are open to splitting the McKay compo pick and going for Curtin/Duursma.

You are going to be dissapponted if you are expecting 3 top 10 picks equivalent for Reid.

Doubt any current AFL players would even get that in a trade yet alone a kid who hasn’t even done 1 day of a pre-season before.

Desperate people do desperate things and Melbourne are reportedly desperate for Reid...

Is this based on the reporters who you choose to listen to when it suits your narrative (here) but choose to dismiss when it doesn’t (the trade offers being reported)?

I think Melbourne can put together an offer with what they have already but we would need to be able to get the GC pick ourselves.

MEL - 5, 15, 24
WCE - 1, 38

Leaves WCE with 5, 15, 19, 24, 35

WCE - 4
GC - 15, 19

Leaves WCE with 4, 5, 24, 35

I'm not sold that we would do this as we would need something to give to Hawthorn for Brockman but Melbourne can put together an offer for pick 1 that leaves us with two picks inside the top 5 without having to provide both picks themselves.

Do you honestly believe that WCE, a club that is notoriously secretive and almost impossible to predict prior to Twomey's phantom, would let info like this out so easily?
Nope, certain ITKs who are reliable and trustworthy.
How do you square the circle that West Coast are the most tight-lipped secretive club in the land but are also leaking info to BigFooty posters?

'The go-home factor is a myth'. Next minute, froth over getting one of the Dees home-grown young guns. Makes sense :)
Josh Kennedy didn't want to leave Carlton for WCE as part of the Judd trade but he was pushed out anyway.

From certain rumblings, expect the same to happen with JVR.
