Pick 29?

Do they believe Swift will be picked up earlier, forcing you to take Beams instead?

That may be part of the reasoning.

I'm still pretty confident we will select Swift if available. But yeah, don't write of Beams. I reckon if Swift is gone then we may select him.

But Im usually wrong.

Dayne Beams – 184cm, 81kg – Queensland / Southport.
Midfielder with reasonably good skills on both sides of the body. Runs pretty hard and his work rate is pretty good. In saying this he could work a bit smarter by pushing to space a bit more at various times. Can kick the ball a long way but does kick to contests a bit. Is also a reasonably good mark. Pace is pretty good but he is not exceptionally quick. Clearance work is pretty good.
Definitely worth a look at, fourth round or later.

What am I missing here?

Is a second division mid, we havent seen him against first div teams. that seems to be the issue. I think he will still be there at 29, so no need for 11.

But if we got him at 11 i wouldnt be overly surprised or upset

He doesn't figure in most peoples top 50 and is worth a 4th rounder or later in most estimations.. tell why we are considering our first round pick on him?

because he fits exactly what we need.

Quickish (not the fastest)
Decent height
Strong body
uses the ball on both sides
get clearances
Courage

Now i would prefer we got him at 29 personally, especially if swift is available but hey pendles was rated real low too so Beams may be worth the punt

Although Swift is reportedly

Faster (2.89 over 20 is lightning)
Taller (190 cm)
Heavier
An above average user of the ball on either side
A clearance player as well as an outside player
Reportedly courageous.

I hope we take Swift at 11 over Beams. At 29, either Beams, Hannebury, Smith, or Robinson. I would be very pleased if this were to eventuate.

Yeah but they are saying he is reasonable at those things.. kinda like saying a girl has a nice personality

Reckon there'd be a few bottom-eight sides who might just like Hannebery with their 2nd rounder, eliminating any chance of him sliding to 29. Otherwise that'd be ideal.

If we could nab two of Swift, Hannebery and Beams, we're doing very well.

Funny how all of a sudden people are rating Beams, even though he hasn't kicked a footy in anger for a few months now!
I have him about #30 to #35, so I wouldn't be fussed if we picked him up at #29, but if we take him at #11 I'll be reverting to pure faith in Derek Hine.

Having said all that, I still don't think it will happen. When there's this much noise regarding Collingwood's drafting two weeks (well, twelve days) out, it's almost certain to be wrong IMHO, and it will be someone who's barely been mentioned that gets picked up.

Is Dead Eye Didak an accurate poster when it comes to the draft.

I remember there being a user that was very accurate.

Im hoping for draft day to go
11-swift/sidebottom/hanneberry
29-Beams
43-gugliotta/post/key back
44-jordan Roughead/ruckman
77-Begly.

i really dont think we would take Beams at 11 but if we do i trust we know what we are doing

Nah, you're thinking of Didak's Left Foot, who reported on the morning of the 2005 draft that we'd be taking both Thomas and Pendlebury. Very accurate, but the morning of the draft is quite different to 12 days beforehand! :D

Im sure Hine has it all worked out, and would no that beams will be there at 29, even possibly 45 so he won't go at 11.

I still think Sidebottom/Blease or Swift at 11

then most likely Strauss or Zaharahkis at 29. (Now Beams supposedly in calculations)

All i want is 2 top midfielders with our first 2 picks, and then go for a key back with our next.

Forget Zaharakis, Hine could have taken him for nothing but preferred a lumbering, 195cm Toby Thoolen and we delisted him after 1 year of a 2-year contract. That shows you how highly we rated Zaharakis.

Now i dont understand that, seemed a likely sort last year, looks a likely sort this year.

But yeah i agree i highly doubt we would bite on him now.

I knew it was some sort of Didak.

Ive known dayne for a while now and quite regulary talk to him, have been involved with his footy for a number of years hes, I dont think any of us can really have much of an idea on what pick hes going to go recruiters would have done all there homework watched every senior game he played this year, we can speculate why hes getting all this hype when everyones had him out of there phantom drafts on BF , probably due to the fact none of uses wouldve seen him play this year because qld did go to well due to lack of talent. From what i know looking at tac cup site he averaged 32 possies and kicked 7 goals over those tac cup games, and was in melbourne for there div 2 champs when he had 34 against n.t, also chatted to him after dc and he was measured at 187cm and 78kg was unable to test due to an injury in southports premiership but was training before dc camp sub 3's for 20 m and 15.2 beep test.just thought id give uses some info before some people get to angry he may be going pick 11 cheers

Where is Didak's Left Foot?

Plus having pick 2 and 5 is easier to Predict Pick 11

Beams played 3 games in the TAC Cup during the year when Queensland are invited in just before the carnival, these where his 3 game stats:

Vs Geelong Falcons
3 goals
18 kicks
13 handballs
13 handball receives
3 tackles
6 marks

Vs Gippsland
1 goal
15 kicks
20 handballs
17 handball receives
4 tackles
4 marks

Vs North Ballarat
3 goals
10 kicks
20 handballs
8 handball receives
4 tackles
5 marks

Still quality numbers, not many TAC Cup midfielders had 30 touches in 3 straight games.

Very good numbers.

Extremely good actually

Yeah. I reckon I would forget about any write ups on Beams on BF. Focus on the fact we're in to him in some way, and be pretty happy that the recruiting staff has done their homework if we take him.

Especially with stats like that
