Analysis Pick Mitch Harvey now, not in 2017!!

Harvey should have been picked two weeks ago when Ryder dropped out. If he's not able to run out a full game well I could be wrong but I think they've introduced this thing call the interchange where you are allowed to take players off the ground for a spell and put them back on later. Yeah pretty funky I know.

Maybe they could have tried that with him.

I don't have a good memory but I do recall Harvey playing a couple of NAB challenge games at the start of this pre season.The only thing that stood out was his red hair,large frame and teal Guernsey.His on field play was nothing noteable

I will put money on Renouf being picked last year vs Freo at AO with the intent to crash and bash against Sandilands to soften him up and the sub him at 3/4 time with a runner and let Jacko jump against Sandi in the last. It happens all the time, maybe 1 or 2 games a week, but it is risky because if you get an injury the whole planning could go out the door.

Harvey v Harry Taylor would offer a shit load more than Sam Gray v Harry Taylor, Robbie Gray v Harry Taylor, Paul Stewart v Harry Taylor and Ollie Wines v Harry Taylor - because thats what we got all last night with our forward line structure.

Destroy his confidence for the next decade after 1 or 2 games - give me a ****en break. If he is that soft in the head then we delist him at the end of the year.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result. We are insane if we dont find out which one of young KFP's can play the game and expect 5 foot 11 blokes to beat 6 foot 5 blokes.

If Harvey gets 5 kicks - half what Sam Gray got last night, more kicks than Monfries got last night and more than Paul Stewart got last night he will offer a shit load more than what they did last night.

This has pretty much summed our 2015 season. After some of the selections this year bringing Harvey in for one game against the Blues would not be too far fetched.

Exactly and I agree, but worst case scenario, we know Renouf would run it out and had adequate AFL experience.

Last year I posted that I wanted us to pick Mitch Harvey for the Rd 23 game against Freo at Subi to bash and crash into Sandilands to help out Lobbe so he had a bit of a rest. I was criticised for my call, no dramas, its a forum for free opinions, we didnt pick him, Sandilands absolutely dominated Lobbe they went on a 9 goal unanswered run in the 3rd quarter and early last, we do our usual comeback, but lose, miss top 4 and therefore best chance to make a GF.

Against Freo in the semi we should have lost the game by half time but they didnt bury us because of bad goal kicking, so in the second half most of our goals come from tricky, freaky snaps near the boundary line and a couple from great runs along the boundary and kicking from way out wide. Similar story in the PF re bad goal kicking, but this time by us, and still kicking freaky goals.

We have been lulled into the belief that this style of play is sustainable long term. It isnt!!

We need to start structuring up correctly and playing more sustainable realistic footy. Gray and Wingard will do enough tricky, freaky stuff but we have to get the rest of the team playing percentage footy.

We need a gorillia and we need a proper forward line. Pick Mitch Harvey and tell him to play deep and he doesnt have to play past the CHF square line. Sam Gray isnt a 100 gamer, yet we pick him and expect him to have to beat Harry Taylor for maybe 20% of the game.

Against Geelong they had 3 true KPD's who had played over 700 games between them and we played Schulz, and then told Westhoff to drift all over the place including spending a bit of time on Blicavs. You cant win with that forward line against that defence especially when you throw in another 700 games from Mackie, Enright and Kelly - although we lucked out with Kelly going down.

If Harvey has 5 kicks within 52m from goal on reasonable angles, I reckon he will slot 4 of them.

Play him against a weak Carlton team at the MCG, give him the bye off and then play him on the smaller SCG where he doesnt have to run as far.

I have found out enough about the sort of AFL player Sam Gray will make. I want to find out what sort of player Mitch Harvey will make. Tom Hawkins got gifted games when he probably wasnt ready. It's not a sin to blood someone early. If Butcher is out of favour with the selection committee then Harvey has to play. The season is as good as over for finals. We arent going to find out any more about or win any more games with Sam Gray, Jake Neade, Aaron Young or Paul Stewart playing in the forward line in place of a KFP.

Now is the time to find out what sort of AFL player Mitch Harvey will make.

I like the idea, we have played others this year who may or not have been ready.
As as been said there is interchange and the sub rule to be used.
This year is probably cactus for finals so why not give games to our next bunch of kids. I would like to see Arch given a full game as well.

If we loose games as a result it's not all bad. It means we will get better draft picks and an easier draw next year.

Ordinarily I wouldn't be keen on playing Harvey this soon into his AFL career given how far behind he was fitness wise when drafted. This year though we played an underdone Redden and saw S.Gray match up on Taylor. Based on that, Harvey should have already debuted!

Didn't go well but throwing Mitch to the wolves isn't the answer. Butch is closer. Butch doesn't offer a side a run out of defence or a spare player in the midfield Butch isn't playing with confidence forward but wouldn't let us down when we don't have the ball. Mitch isn't an option yet.
