Well i dont know how but we won. Went into the game expecting a 6-7 goal loss without 6 of our top 10 players. 2 of which are our 2 best players, but we actually won!

Plenty to work on however, we looked very easy to transition against at times which was the story last year as well. Also Essendon scored over 60 points from turnovers, i like the idea of being bold and attempting the kick into the middle but we got to know when its on. Plenty to work on but a good hit out.

Shame about Sinclair, the only positive is we have plenty of depth in that area at the moment. Hoping for a speedy recovery however.

Dicuss.

My Thoughts:

  • I like Aish's Chasing his Man but Simmlar Problem as last year he had. Where he was the ball was not
  • WHE looks like Something Special. He has X-Factor that is for sure
  • Daics did some nice things and really liked his Intensity
  • Said Sinclair did a Hammy
  • Loved De Goey's Game. Run Clearances and Kicked Goals
  • Moore was Quiet but did some nice things in Last Qtr
  • Phillps is a Ball Magnet
  • Keefe was Utterly Useless and Goldsack was not much Better
  • Good that Ramsey and Berg got thru the Game Fine
  • Cox was Solid and Showed he could Ruck IF Needed
  • Steele was good as Captain

Didn't see the game, followed live scores on AFL app...what injury has Sinclair suffered please?

Hard to know what to make of it this early in the season and given the players out and rested in game.

That said, looking on paper I thought we would be going well to be within 5 goals. Their midfield just looked so much stronger on paper.

Thankfully it isnt played on paper.

Big Positives were

Phillips I think is making a genuine claim for best 22
JDG if he keeps this going into the season proper will be another midfield weapon to fear
WHE giving the lie to the concept that a newly introduced player will take time to gel with his teammates. And those skills!
Elliott Ramma Fas and Schaz on the field. Thank dog. Tonight was more about just getting some miles in and seeing them play. No injuries and some good moments between them is a bonus.

Nice things

Dunn apart from one bad brainfart looked decent to me
Keeffe and Cox held their own in ruck
Schade also not bad

Fighting back. Spirit is priceless.

Not so nice things.

Sinkers. God dammit.

Mayne, Blair and Goldsack all looked like journeymen no longer up to the task. The good news with Blair and Goldsack is, we shouldnt have to play them except in rare circumstances and they dont have long under contract.

On Mayne, well, I will trot out the usual excuses about learning his new team etc. But yeah, four years of this would be pretty unfunny.

AAAhh.. YEAH !!! ...it's back at last..

SO ... what did we learn...
Seems the KFC crash diet has payed dividends for the Gooey.
Sinclair is his usual self. No change there.
Mayne's 2 possessions were quality!!
Lynden Dunn has cult figure possibilities

I thought White and Greenberg did OK and Welcome back Elliott I also thought Dunn was good down back

Only negatives were Goldsack and Sinclair.

Goldsack may find himself spending an entire year in the VFL, young guys looked to of pasted him.

I don't think Sinclair will ever get a good run at it unfortunately, constant Hammies or concussion issues just when he starts to look good. Seems he is highly susceptible to both.

I was very impressed with Hoskin-Elliott tonight, despite my constant disapproval of the trade for him at the time. I'm very happy to eat my words he was splendid.

Jack Crisp the unsung hero tonight - 17 touches, 11 of which were contested and a couple of snags to go with it.

Busy day for me. Admit to being a little irritated having gotten home for the last quarter, and the Maggies being down by four goals. I have to say the super goal rule is unfortunate for the Bombers. Without it in the season proper, there is no way the momentum would have been as pronounced by kicking 18 points in a couple of minutes to cut the margin to less than a goal.

Positives from the last quarter seemed to be the ball movement (as it sounded from the radio), and a lot of the young blokes getting a crack. Hoskin-Elliot snagged a couple, and Daicos was getting a mention. Hearing we were without a few players (were they rested?) makes this result quite pleasing.

Fantasia kicking four for the Bombers, and McKernan three, with a double in the premiership quarter. Hope they do well this season, even make the eight if they drag the Pies with them.

Now I am going to string up my radio to shut up Terry Wallace. Definitely not much of a special comments man. Go Magpies!
