ON SCOTT LYCETT PLAYING ALONGSIDE PADDY RYDER:

"It's a coaching question more than anything but certainly it's going to necessitate a need for the coaches to re-think the way we've played the game.

"Both guys can play forward as well so I imagine they'll mix and match.

"We had a crack at Scott a few years ago when he signed with the Eagles so we're thrilled to get him ... we would have liked to have brought a ruckman in last year but the timing wasn't to be."

Also confirmed it's a five-year deal for Lycett.

JARED POLEC

"Our preference wasn't to lose Jared, we would have preferred to keep him and we offered him a contract along those lines."

CHAD WINGARD

"I know there's been a lot of discussion about that ... he doesn't need to tell us he's staying ... he's contracted.

"If he wanted to leave, that's the conversation we'd be having but we've had no conversation with Chad or his management that he wants out so we're planning for Chad to be with us for 2019.

"From our perspective right now, we're looking at him being at our club in 2019.

"I know a number of clubs have expressed an interested but none of them have been compelling enough for us to change our minds, and Chad hasn't said he wants to go."

KARL AMON

"We've had a number of discussions with Karl over the last few months, he's expresed an interest in wanting to return to Victoria.

"He's given us good service, he's a fantastic young man and we'd like to help him get back to Victoria.

"Which club that will be will play out."

HARLEY BENNELL

"I wasn't aware of that and our club's had no discussion about Harley coming to Port Adelaide."

Trade radio saying pick 7 for Wingard is a good deal. Bit low.

For the team giving up pick 7, yeah. It's a ****ing fantastic deal for them.

If we traded pick 7 only for Wingard we need to sack everyone. Pick 7. Some random unknown for a Midfield/Forward gun who was pick 6, in his prime years. Seems legit.

Chris Davis on trade radio stating they have no plans on trading Chad and they expect him to be there next year unless Chad states otherwise which he hasn't at this point? Bizarre.

Has the club actually offered him a new contract?
Seems reasonable to me?

Davies keeps being asked the same question on Wingard, so keeps giving the same answer.

A journo needs to follow up with something along the lines of: if you expect him and want him to be at the club in 2019, after which he becomes a free agent, are you trying to extend his contract beyond 2019 before next season starts?

The answer or deflection of that would be a lot more telling as to what the club's true intentions with Chad are.

Good player and could be a mentor for SPP

lol at them trying to describe what kind of player Wingard is on Trade Radio. "He's a goal kicking................ whatever........x-factor ......... player"

To be fair, you could say that about many players in our side. The coaching is so bad that it's hard to tell what their actual role is.

Boak does that thing where he goes forward but not really and is meant to tackle and things but he's sometimes in the midfield and backlines.
Dixon is a midfieder who pinch hits in the forward line
Rockliff is a super-slow-mo outside inside midfieder with forward and defence x-factor.

Is it that hard to use the term "required player" when talking about Chad?

Everything we've said has shown such a take it or leave it attitude where we don't really care if he stays or goes and that's actively lowering his trade value if he does get sick of being treated like a fringe player being shopped around.

So I see that Wingard comment as something like this....

"We put Wingard on the table, thinking he might net us a huge return, likely 2 first round picks, 1 of which in the 5-10 range. Clubs haven't felt he is worth that much and as such we will hold onto him. Chad probably wouldn't have left anyway but we thought it was our duty to try and cash in on his talent for *insert reasons* while we can"
