I'd imagine if we go a guy like Vlastuin with pick 9, we will pick up one or two of those pacy, but perhaps less highly credentialed mids with later picks. Guys like Macrae (arguably no less highly credentialled than Vlastuin, but maybe an outside chance of being there at pick 29 all the same), Nathan Wright, Matthew Haynes, Coleman-Broome and Shane Nelson, not that I'm an expert!

We need Foley on the park for the bulk of the season too! Haven't seen a lot of him, but Nelson seems to be very much in the Foley mould... maybe why I'm so keen for us to pick him up with a later pick.

If you want class, you gotta get it early. Macrae will be gone early. If he isn't top 15 I will eat my hat. I am thinking top 10. If Garlett is gone, which is a possibility I hear the Bulldogs are very keen, then a Macrae would be good for us. Mayes would be amazing too. As I said though, Vlastuin would be a good get especially if Garlett is gone. Kennedy in the mix also.

But yeah, quite possibly. KM currently has him (Macrae) in the low 20's, with a range of 10-35... not sure how recently he's re-assessed, and even then it's only one man's opinion.

We should be obtaining Chaplin and Knights. Almost there with both. I think Knights is done.

We have been linked to Russell, who I would be keen for. In my opinion he would be a guy that could be that run with player or do jobs on guys. He is that type that needs a specific role and job to do. I think he is high quality and can still get to that level.

What else is needed?

i'd do whatever it takes to get Giles from GWS! he could play back up ruck/fwd role and would be in his prime when Mullet end up hanging up the boots, he's a star of the future IMO so we should at least have a decent shot at getting him, that way Vickery can play 2nd fwd role similar to Roughead of hawthorn.
Plus if (i hope like helll it don't happen) Mullet gets injured or chops off the hair (which is rumoured) then Giles is a ready to go replacement, as it stands if we lose Maric we are royally screwed IMHO

imo giles will only leave to be the no1 ruck which would rule us out.

I was one of those who had been questioning how Lyon could play Dawson ahead of Silvagni, and we should try to pinch Silvagni... but he was truly terrible last night, and I thought exactly the same as you - McGuane seriously would have done a better job. Ross, you were right!

Chocco didn't give Giles one single game in 3 years, so I doubt Giles would exactly beat down the door To be reunited with him.

I think he could be. Very disciplined player. Nice size, great running capacity.

I think you misinterpreted the reason for my post. It was referring someone to the article which stated that Essendon had offered Gumbleton a one year deal which he had earlier refuted.

Great analysis Gun, and blaisee, with a full pre season for the new comers and another with the mullet putting it down their throats I believe there will be a massive upside to our mid setups/structure/game plan.
If Cotch, Dusty and even Newman going forward as part of the game plan to rest, I feel a hell of a lot more confident we can be competitive and not have those 10-15 minute spells where we got murdered at stoppages which proved to be so costly this year.

4th? In their B&F, noted leadership qualities. Frees up Rance (not taking best forward each week) and Grimes (3rd up), allows Griff to impact contests. Heaps to like for me.
27 is not THAT old. Sure he's not 24 but if we give him the 4 years it gives up plenty of time to develop our youngsters. Just my 2 cents worth.

Edit: A few Port people think he's been played out of position the last 2 years which has affected him a lot.
