“The players want us to understand why they have chosen to do this, tonight’s gesture is one of support, unity and respect driven by the playing group,” the statement read. “We stand in solidarity with our indigenous brothers and sisters for all people of colour. There is no place for racism. The knee is an expression of that support, we see strength in diversity, it makes us better as a football club and as a community. We will be there for each other always, especially at a time when many are impacted by what is going on around the world. We will continue to learn and walk this journey together.”
How can people actually have a problem with this?
Am I dissapointed in the AFL not taking a knee or doing something similar for the Hong Kong situation? For sure.
Does that make me really angry that they took a knee for something else? No.
That makes me dumb apparently.

You don't see the hyprocrisy of it? Or you think it's okay to get all preachy about one subject but then be quiet and toe the line about another because it's too costly?
How the hell in your mind is taking a knee "preachy"?
I can look at it from your angle and I dont see hypocrisy, I see you thinking "Ugh, the didnt take a knee for X, Y or Z so why should they try and take a knee for this?"
The topic is opression
The AFL will stand against the opression of black people
But be too OPRESSED to stand against the opression of Hong Kong
So you are angry they stood for one thing, but not something else. So if I told you I stood for something, then you rattled off 100 other things I could stand for and I acknowledged I either didnt know or was not in the process for showing I stood for some of them, Im the hypocrite.
Why are we doing this thread again?
Not sure why you think i'm getting angry. Just saying the AFL can't sanction one protest of opression but then be too opressed for another.
I think you're getting the AFL confused with the players. I don't care if the players aren't aware of the situation in Hong Kong. I think most people in Australia aren't really aware. My issue is if the players were to organise a kneel for Hong Kong the AFL wouldnt allow it. If you allow protesting for this then the AFL should allow all protesting should the players wish to. But they wont. And that's my problem.
I support a protest for this. I would also support a protest for Hong Kong. But the AFL wont and that's why I don't approve of the AFL sanctioning this protest and using it for good PR. That's why i voted no.
Because you lot aren't done being triggered? Why are we doing this thread again?
It’s quarter time dingusyou don’t have to open it
your team is playing at this very moment
wtf are you doing here
Social change is always a game of incremental advance, and there is the opportunity right now to push forward faster than would otherwise happen. In 100 years people will look back at us and shake their heads at how ignorant we were. Hopefully this will be one of those things where they think things went right at that point in time.If them kneeling makes even one person stop and actually consider how the situation could be taking hold in our own country then I would consider their kneeling very much worth it.
And honestly, I think it either already has or will. It's got people talking for a start and that's half the battle.

Why are we doing this thread again?
No it's just a bunch of white mostly privately educated millionaires virtue signalling.
It's a pointless exercise
Focus on doing something worthwhile like a cure for cancer!
What was your initial emotion when you saw all the players kneel? Was it annoyance? Disbelief? Anger? Frustration? Indifference?
It was clearly something powerful enough for you to say they shouldnt have done it because you feel they were forced into it and they havnt knelt for anything else before so why do it now.
