Poor old Paxo played for Fitzroy and Port at the wrong time when neither sides could beat North at their dominate best. Melbourne just have been pooh since 2006.

Some of you may have read some or all of James Coventry's book about the evolution of footy tactics, or read about the book.

In June his new book about Footy stats and how data analytics is revolutionizing the game, will be released. Port's own Robert Younger who started his Figuring Footy blog 2 years ago has contributed as have the HPN guys, The Arc, Insight Lane, Darren O'shaunessy, On ballers and a few other guys I like to read and post some of their stuff on the Port board.

Coventry is now working for ABC Grandstand during the footy season.

Loved Time and Space, very good read and essential for any footy fan.

Surprised the Swans got up last night, but guess if you are going to keep all three of the GWS engine room of Kelly, Whitfield and Shiel all to low 20's in the possessions that goes a very long way. Huge game from Sinclair and Buddy popping up just when you need him undoubtably helps too.

The Bridge was probably log jammed with a 10 km traffic snarl if it was a normal Saturday night.
Fun fact - I learned at the Sydney game last week that it's the battle of the ANZAC Bridge (linking east and west) not the Sydney Harbour Bridge (linking north and south).

The AFL should be seriously concerned about the health of the game in Melbourne if 2 of the biggest clubs are drawing 35k on a nice Friday night in round 3.

Should be a good book.
Hope Younger finds a way to give us the edge in the coaches box.

They are like every supporter base, they like winners!

Yeah it's hardly getting any mention whatsoever but Gold Coast are extremely disadvantaged this year.

I actually don't give a shit about GC being disadvantaged. It's the free win to Freo that could very well put them into finals at someone else's expense that pisses me off.

33k crowd at the new palace yet we'll cop it for yesterday for a similar turnout

GC actually stands for General Carcass so

I wonder if buying the home game from GC was worth it for Freo considering that 33,388 turned up to the new stadium.

All things considered (opponent, timeslot, Round 3) that's actually a pretty good turnout for a daily ticketed event over and above the usual 11-game schedule.

If we were in the same boat I'm not sure I'd be bothered paying extra and trundling in.

I'm not really knocking the turnout but they did fork out 1.2 mil for the privilege. I'd be interested to know if they came out in front.

Highly likely, ticket sales alone would have covered that and some costs, add in corporate, food, actually getting a win they may have not got.

Well worth it.

Yeah, but in considering it, you can't just take into account that game. The win (versus given GC's form a more likely loss away), of higher attendances across the next few home games, plus increased merchandise sales (usually following better team success). And of course the points. I'd say it's a win. If Port played better at AO, I'd be happy to do it.

Haha, if.

We're the only team in the history of professional sport that would actually gain a direct on field benefit out of selling home games to a rival team.
