So far Port have received $15m from the feds, $3mil from the state government and a $220k contribution for the electricity infrastructure upgrade need for the new lights from the City of Port Adelaide & Enfield council.
And some tricoloured fans seem to think that Port are the handout club...

I heard the crows reckon they can get around $20m for selling their buildings at West Lakes. But they don't own the land they are build on, the SANFL sold that to Commercial and General, and those buildings would be zoned non residential, so its going to be difficult for them to get their expected sales proceeds.

So the crows are hoping for $41m from 3 levels of government, $5m-$10m from AFL, the AFL will want another high standard AFLW ground, $20m from West Lakes property, $20m from debt, $10m -$15m from their corporate partners and their cash reserves.

Key word in your comment is “hoping”….

You would want to have some pretty solid levels of hope before committing to a $100m project.

I’m no expert, but how can West Lakes be worth $20m, given they don’t own the land and it’s been constructed for a very particular purpose. You would need a unique buyer…. Which in the current climate, that may be hard to find.

They paid $20m to build for it between 2008 and 2009.

That would be the basis for their hope of receiving $20m in say 2025.

I thought they were aiming for a deal with the SANFL where they vacate their base at Thebarton and move into the current Crows HQ

They have to get the lease from the SANFL for Thebby.

The SANFL have to deal with Charles Sturt Council as part of selling Footy Park and the whole land package, the deal was that the oval area reverts to control and ownership to the council after the 2048 peppercorn lease between the crows and SANFL finishes.

If the crows were to stay on at West Lakes past 2048 then they would have to deal with the Charles Sturt Council just like Port does with the Port Adelaide and Enfield Council.

Commercial and General were never going to build on the oval as that area helped meet their 20% or maybe its 25% of green space requirements for new developments.

Its a complicated set of arrangements. That's why I have previously written this could take 10 years and if they get the keys to a new place within 6 years they have done well. I reckon we have just started year 3 of this process.

Edit Crows have lodged their detailed plans with SA Planning Commission for State Assessment Panel to consider. Recjon they will turn first sod of soil in June.

Sorry I didn't address the bold bit directly.

The SANFL want to build new facilities roughly where the old members grandstand was. They don't want the crows facility as
1) it means they would have to pay the crows
2) they want new purpose built stuff for their proposed academies and new admin buildings
3) new stuff means chance to get government funding, there's no funding if they buy out the crows old building

The SANFL wants to return to its former home at Football Park and spend around $27 million on a new talent facility in the West Lakes precinct, as the league faces a race against time to move out of Thebarton Oval.

With the Adelaide Crows soon leaving West Lakes for a new $100 million headquarters at Thebarton Oval, the SANFL has asked if it can return to Football Park when the land vests back in the City of Charles Sturt in 2026. The league wants to use the ground for its state under-16s and under-18s as well as its First Nations and multicultural talent programs.

The eight SANFL member clubs, which exclude the Crows reserves and Port Adelaide Magpies, would also have access to the ground “from time to time”, the SANFL said.

The league wants to use the ground from 4pm to 8pm on Monday to Friday and for 25 match days a year. Over a year, the license request amounts to 16.75 hours a week, 72.5 hours a month and 870 hours a year. The community will have access to the oval around 80 per cent of the time between 7am and 7pm over a year, according to the City of Charles Sturt.

The SANFL is also proposing a $26.9 million investment in the precinct.

The funding would go towards a new “high performance and community football facility” co-located with the Mosaic Hotel, a pub owned by the SANFL adjacent to Football Park.

A $3.3 million car park development and $1 million upgrade of the oval, including new perimeter fencing, an interchange area, lighting and a scoreboard, are also on the table.

Sorry one other reason why the SANFL don't want the Crows HQ.

Building their new admin building next to the SANFL owned Mosaic Hotel, means they only have to walk about 20m to go have their long lunch at the pub. Don't want to have to walk across or worse still, around the oval to get to the pub.

Hobart’s AFL stadium ‘dead’ after Premier Jeremy Rockliff’s cost handpass

Opponents of Hobart’s promised AFL stadium have declared the controversial project dead, in the wake of Premier Jeremy Rockliff’s shock decision to cap taxpayers’ exposure at $375m.

Mr Rockliff, in his first pledge of the state election campaign, sought to address fears the cost of the stadium - part of a deal delivering Tasmania an AFL team - will blowout far beyond the $715m estimated.

“I recognise that this project is not everyone’s cup of tea and that some Tasmanians would prefer that this money was spent in different areas,” Mr Rockliff said.

“I also understand that there are concerns in the community that the final cost of the stadium could significantly increase, leaving Tasmanian taxpayers with a large, unbudgeted bill.

“Therefore … a re-elected majority Rockliff Liberal government will cap Tasmanian government capital expenditure on the Macquarie Point Stadium at the currently budgeted $375m – and not one red cent more.”

The AFL has refused to provide more $15m for the fully roofed, 23,000-seat stadium and it is unclear how much of $240m pledged by the federal government will be spent on the stadium, as opposed to wider precinct development.

Mr Rockliff denied he had effectively killed the project, which few independent observers believe can be built for less than $1 billion.

Instead, he said private investors would need to cover any budget overruns. However, opponents dismissed this idea as a fantasy, declaring the project dead.

“This is a political fix and it means the end of the stadium, because the agreement he (Rockliff) signed with the AFL transferred all the risk to the state,” said Roland Browne, spokesman for anti-stadium Our Place Hobart.

“He’s had the best part of a year to resolve funding for the stadium. That he attempts to do it on the first day of an election campaign is both embarrassing and ludicrous.

“There is no prospect of any private capital going into this unplanned, unfunded, and wrongly sited stadium.”

You know how the Silverchair boys were 15 for half a decade or more?

When it comes to Port’s finances, most randoms seem to think it’s still 2010/11.
