With the Tasmanian state election being held in just five days time and taxpayer funding of upwards of $750m (more likely $1 billion when finished) for a new closed roof AFL stadium with a capacity of 23k being such a hot election topic, the AFL is clearly playing politics here to support the current Tas government.

Also exposes their own gutless Vic-bias incompetence in not forcing Norf to shift to Tasmania rather than propping up a 19th team (which will surely have to expand to 20) funded by other clubs and lowering the talent pool across the competition.

Yet Geelong, with a population of about a third of Tasmania's, continues to pork barrel taxpayer funds into MDMA park, which now has a capacity of 40,000.

And don't get me started on the situation here in the ACT. Manuka oval has a capacity of roughly 15,000 with temporary stands, with 14,500 of those exposed to the sleet and hail of the Canberra winter. The AFL wanted to upgrade it as part of its package for the Giants but the local government here decided it needed its tram to nowhere more. To be fair though, Manuka is near where posh people live and there's a lot of nimbyism and we have a minority government ;).

More tickets have been released for AFL’s Gather Round as it’s revealed Aussie indie rockers The Temper Trap will entertain crowds at next month’s Norwood Food and Wine Festival, which has returned as part of the four-day footy feast.

All nine matches were previously sold out, but AFL chief executive Andrew Dillon announced on Monday that over 1000 tickets have now become available and will go on sale to the public on Thursday at 1pm Adelaide time. They will be available through Ticketek.
Mr Dillon said the extra Gather Round tickets have become available after corporates and members recently returned some passes.
