I truly hope the Brownlow top three this year are all ineligible and some plank has to accept the medal for being the fourth best player of the season.

The Crows argued the incident should be graded as careless rather than intentional, which would have resulted in a three-match ban instead of four matches.

"The clash of heads was accidental. You cannot be satisfied that Rankine intended high contact," Adelaide's lawyer Andrew Culshaw said.

But the three-person Tribunal panel needed just 14 minutes to deliberate and find Rankine guilty as originally charged.

In fairness that is a weird one. Remember even the Jimmy Webster snipe on Simpkin somehow didn't get graded as intentional.

Have a look at this utter melt. Hahaha I can’t 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

If that had been SPP instead of Rankine that would have been 8 weeks. Rankine didn't get a Port/Indigenous tax, but a crows discount.

Rankine chose to make forceful contact way off the ball on a player who wasn't expecting it and the player he bumped was concussed. The decision to initiate contact off the ball was the intentional part and the tribunal upheld that interpretation.

It was not reasonable to stop and forcefully bump Starcevich when Rankine must have known Starcevich was not expecting to be bumped.

Play had stopped, and although the bump was almost simultaneous with the umpire’s whistle, the Crows fairly accepted that neither player could reasonably have expected that the ball was about to come their way.

SPP was given 4 matches for a collision in a trial game where the player was slung into him as he ran in to tackle.

As for Jimmy Webster, he was rightfully given 7 games for a crude late bump that was at least in the passage of play.
