It's obvious you have to expand the finals series, the alternative is having stacks and stacks of meaningless dead rubbers in the back half of the season.

If everyone who can recognise a Sherrin makes the finals then the entire minor round is a dead rubber.

Next the finals format will be extended to a top 18. You could finish bottom, make finals and still win the flag. But in all seriousness 8 out of 18 is already a pretty generous format to play finals. If you are good enough to be in the top 40% of the teams you get there.

If they are gonna copy the NBA at least make the draft a lottery so teams aren't tanking for the first pick like Richmond will be this weekend

There's no clear number 1 pick in this draft.

Pick 6 is as likely as pick 1.

Richmond should show up tomorrow night trying.

Up until the NHL went thru its second round of major expansion, starting in 1992, and have grown to 31 teams, post merger with the WHA in the the late 1970s, when they had 20 and then 21 teams in the league, they would play 82 home and away games and then have a finals series that had 16 teams involved.

The bottom 6 sides in the finals never went anywhere, but it was all money driven.

Probably broadcast related
Just heard Essendon have raised that their fans might not be able to access digital tickets on their phones and wouldn't be fair on them. I guess a certain percentage of crows fans have plastic passes and not digital tickets.

Marvel stadium won't be able to read tickets
My bad its not AO.

Essendon just released a statement saying digital tickets can now be read by Marvel Stadium scanners.

Something a bit odd about this. I imagine all of these resulted in 3+ week suspensions which means we already known all of these constitute a dangerous tackle. There’s nothing in this video about why they’re dangerous, just feels a bit morbid that someone put together this compilation for the league and it’s going to achieve nothing.

Probably because the Tribunal said that the Cameron and Bedford tackles were unreasonable conduct but because AFL's legal counsel didn't address the WHICH IS LIKELY TO CAUSE INJURY part of Law 18.7.1, and neither did the Tribunal in its decision, the Appeals board said we agree its unreasonable conduct, but you didn't address the likely to cause injury part of the Law, so they let the players off.

They didn't bloody address the likelihood to cause injury part of the Law. because it actually did farken cause an injury ie both tackled players went off concussed.

So practical common sense says you don't have to talk about the likely injury, when there was an actual injury, and the higher Appeal Board, says because you didn't write 15 words about it, we are letting the players off.

That's why the Cameron and Bedford tackles aren't in that video, but if these 2 incidents are 100% exactly repeated this weekend, the MRO will give the 2 tacklers 3 weeks, the AFL legal counsel will talk about the likely to cause injury clause, the tribunal will write about 15 words about it and say that its gone passed likely to actual injury, and uphold the MRO's 3 weeks sanction. And the club's wont appeal the Tribunal ruling to the Appeals Board.

Cameron's and Bedford's tackles should be in that package. But the AFL being legal pants wetters wont put it in there.

It has gotten to an absolutely absurd situation. But the AFL tells us the vibe of things is that they have never been better. And its a vibe, because they never provide quantitative stats to prove its all better.
