Fun fact: only recently found out you're supposed to stop on that target on the ramp. Been jumping off the campaigner since 1987. Always wondering why I could never finish the bike run, ffs.

The past 37 years have been frustrating af.

And I was today years old when I realised that Wu-Tang sampled Barbra Streisand (technically, Gladys Knight, but eh.) The song title should've been a dead giveaway farken. I mean, they called it "Can It Be All So Simple" from the lyrics with Babs & Glads literally singing those words from the song they used on the old Telecom ad that left me a blubbering mess every time it aired on TV.

Didn't I feel like a dumb bitch.

Between typically random shit like this and glasses, achilles tendonitis, busted ankle joint and impending hip replacement, my 50th year has been a goddamn whirlwind.

Speaking of Cali Games and old ads…

It was my friend down the road’s copy that I borrowed (I was 12 or 13, he was 10 or 11), so I absolutely hammered it after school for a solid week.

Around that same time was an aggressively repetitive anti-drug/alcohol PSA on TV that featured a grungey song to accompany the hectic footage of a barely conscious young chap trying his best to OD in a grimey toilet, with the main lyric being: “TEAR OUT MY HEART, IN SLOW MOTION”.

So I had a bright idea for what to put in as my name while gunning for each successive high score I got, so the leaderboard ultimately looked like this, with one notable remix — see if you can spot it on this poorly-shooped reenactment:

With the last event being Flying Disc, I put the cherry on top by nailing the catch diving to the left of screen for big points with which to lock in ‘MOTION’.

I felt like I’d just conquered Everest, so of course had to show mum the completed masterpiece, who promptly had a conniption at the prospect of that being permanently seared into the cartridge for my little mate to discover upon returning it.

When I explained that everything wiped as soon as you turn off the console (as there was obviously no save feature in those days), she thought I was concocting a lazy cover and didn’t want to slog through to beat my own high watermarks to clean up the screen — I had to reset it to prove it to her.

An AFL field umpire has been banned from taking the field to start the 2025 season after dressing up as notorious terrorist Osama bin Laden to an end-of-season function.
Leigh Haussen admitted to wearing the inappropriate costume to a private function to celebrate the end of the season.
The theme for the event was “characters from the 2000s”.
The league has confirmed there were no skits involved, however Haussen changed into costume at the venue and donned a mask for a short period of time.

The AFL really hates 9/11 don't they

Very dodgy background indeed for this bloke...

Haussen, who works as a finance broker, has also refereed 166 SANFL matches, including six grand finals between 2010 and 2016.

This sort of thing just shows the AFL to be the virtue signalling w***ers they are.

The above should be an internal memo to staff saying 'come on guys, don't do this' with a warning that the next time someone does it there will be a fine involved.

For this to be the feature of a press release complete with public punishment just goes to show what their motives are.

Seems nuts that it's allowed.

Hopefully this bullshit all disappears when AFL reserves comes in and we end up with 2 way contracts etc
I wouldn't be hopeful since the AFL can't organise a root at burning man.

Whew, I'm glad the AFL has clarified that Osama bin laden = bad.
