Wouldve been spanked in 2020 as we were earlier that year when playing Geelong away.

2014 was the only year we've actually looked likely of winning it.

2020 was the year we should've made it.
2021 was the year we blew an absolute golden ticket but would've gotten pumped.
2024 we were going to get absolutely hammered and were shown as nowhere near deserving in that first final.

So we would've lost in 2020 because Geelong smacked us earlier in the year when we played them?

But we could've won a Grand Final against Sydney in 2014, despite losing to them at the SCG and losing to them by an even bigger margin at Adelaide Oval?

Cerra signing a 5yr extension off the back of 5 hamstrings in 12 months is interesting list management. Shows how little power clubs have and/or are willing to exert.

Adding my 2c to the woulda coulda history files.

We had a momentum and belief in that 2014 finals series that I’ve not seen since. I think we were a solid chance of winning the GF had we won against Hawthorn.

Yeah I don't think you can look at previous games and say that would happen again. Especially given we beat Geelong in a final already in 2020.

I just think that in 2014 we were mentality monsters. In 2020 we were mentality short people. We would have folded like paper in 2020, we would have never given up in 2014.

lol we gave a guy with a brain of mush 5 years, so.

Also I understand this post could mean Dixon or Marshall - i'll leave that to the reader.

If you could go back in time who would you put the ball in the hands of instead of Andrew Moore for that shot late in the 2014 prelim?

Schulz
Wingard
Gray
Hartlett
Hoff (A Humphrey Moment)
Monfries
Polec
Broadbent

The momentum in 2014 was off the charts. We also lost by a couple points to them away in 2014 because of an absolutely once in a lifetime Lance Franklin show. What'd he kick 2 goals from 70m? We make that 2014 GF, I think there isn't a Port fan or player that doesn't believe we can win that, especially at a neutral venue. In 2020, 2021, 2024, we were already scarred. I never truly believed we could win any of those GF's, that belief was clearly lost by about 2017, and although there have been a couple times we've shown that maybe we've changed with some good minor round patches, we still fall back to the same fundamental flaws. In 2020 we got pumped by 60 points away by Geelong, for the same reasons we usually do and I'm convinced we would've lost again by a bunch to them on GF day, we only won because of home ground advantage in the QF, which masked for one week our flaws. Ultimately they came back the next week when Richmond beat us anyway, so we'll never know.

Gray definitely, Wingard and Schulz were better shots for goal definitely but in a moment like that Gray is not missing

It's why a new coach is so important. There's too many demons in our closet and we refuse to clean them out. They'll continue to haunt us until we have a fresh start.

Paul Chapman.

We should have gone hard when he left Geelong. Would have been the perfect player to add out the group at that time.

Absolutely. Im sick of talking about 2014 and 2020 and the woulda coulda shouldas. I want to talk about the wills of the future where we actually take our chances rather than this pointless holding pattern we've been in for at least 7 years
