I don't give a rat's about the umpiring, we're our own worst enemy and always will be without a quality coach. Inconsistent effort, skill errors, dumb decisions, another vital and winnable game pissed away...the monotony of it is so depressing. Geelong were there for the taking, they weren't very good at all, but in the end we made sure they didn't have to be.

With the others out Marshall gets the best defender where he has never been pysicaly strong

Which has not much to do with either his kicking accuracy, or with the game plan for "what he should do" when he marks a ways out.

No you need backout ruckman, give Lycett another year hopefully as the second banana.

and what will the 3rd developing ruckman on our list be doing while Lycett leads the SANFL rucks? oh, wait...

The club is essentially run by the AFL for the AFL so we're just not going to do that are we? I can't bear to watch the presser... call me perversely paranoid but I hope Hinkley didn't have a proper go at the umpiring, because if he did that would tend to suggest he was already feeling secure for next year.
I feel the opposite. Grumpy Ken suggest he is still on edge.

Hopefully because he has no guarantee for next year.

Yes, it’s another loss, but that was a fair effort given the circumstances tonight.

I thought Dante was simply outstanding to produce what he did tonight, with very little help given all our outs. The kid has something special about him & has an exciting career ahead of him.

The other player I want to give credit to is Franky Evans. Yes, he made a bad error, but gee whiz, he puts his body on the & has a decent crack when the balls to be won. From what I’ve seen, I’d only have Rioli ahead of him in the small forward ranks.

Marshall was a bit better tonight, but fair dinkum, he can’t keep handing of the goal kicking responsibility given that’s his main role in the side. It’s not a great look which the coaches will hopefully address during the week.

I'm sure Pasini goes better than Jonas tonight.
They bagged about half a dozen Joe the Goose gaols when the ball came over the back, non of which was Jonas fault.

I am not a Jonas fan but I thought he was OK tonight where I expect he stays in next week if McKenzie does not recover.
I was at the game and what you do not see on TV is his leadership in the backline.
For exampel, at one stage he picked up Williams man and told Williams to run forward as a spare.

Driving home from the game the K-Rock Geelong radio stationed complained about the free kicks Mitch Duncan received; they said he has a bad habit of leading with his head and he should not have been paid a brace of high tackles. They further stated if they could see it from 100 metres away, why couldn't the umpires.

Funny when Rozee expected Jonas to be an afl player and run into space, and then the ball goes out of bounds when Rozee handballs into said space because Jonas didn’t run there. I know we don’t have many options but Jonas must be close to last selected now.
Rozee was like “oh yeah, it’s you”

Hinkley pointed out when asked about a -19 contested possession count, when you're -14 in the free kick count, that goes against your CP count.

Haha. Yes.

Reminds me of the apologists in the aftermath of the 38-15 reaming in Hobart:

‘They got smashed in contested ball, maybe spend less time whinging about the umpires and more time putting your head over it’

Uhhhhmmmm…

Specialist forwards who pass the ball when in range infuriate me. It’s their bloody job to take responsibility and kick the goal.

In other games I’ve seen the same players such as Marshall go back and kick goals from similar positions even when team mates offer up leads.
It’s not a coaching directive it’s players passing the buck.

I think they (the coaches) see it with Bonner, Mead, Evans, Jonas, Burgoyne and heck even Burton. They all lack something crucial to becoming serious premiership contending players. That’s why they’re in and out of the side. Whether it’s a real lack of skill to execute or a real lack of good decision making or a real lack of competitiveness, it was shown up tonight by the three young guys in the middle. They, not the coach/es, kept us in the game tonight with the three attributes mentioned above. I reflect on two or three instances where some of those players named, had the opportunity to impact a contest but chose not to. Then you see Butters in the last qtr turning an almost certain Geelong mark into a disputed ball with his fearless attack on the contest. Leaving some of the umpiring decisions to one side, I thought we lost because we had a few too many players who fell short in one or more of the areas mentioned above.

With Hinkley hopefully gone next year, Carr in, and another pre-season, a lot of our fringe players can take the next step up.

Visentini especially. Looks to be a great future player for us.
Alas Hinkley will get his two year contract.
Where the rumour is they are waiting for us to win a game before annoucing it.

If we defeat the Giants well, Kochie maywell make public his giant call.

Slightly less worried about the rest of the season after that effort. I’m confident the showdown will be the lowest ebb of our slump. I wouldn’t write this group off come finals just yet.

Need to work on our set shots though, Jesus (Lord).

We always trade back into the draft to get currency.
Heard a rumour Burton off to the Gold Coast next year.

Can someone explain to me why they play mead..

What do they see that would see him get picked. When he plays we are one short..

I just don’t get it.. play Jackson, play narkle.. play anybody..enough with this bloke.. he’s no good..
Jackson would be a major upgrade on Mead
Too many SANFL level players in our team

McEntee
Evans
Lord
Bonner
Jonas
Burgoyne
Dante

That’s why we lost
Burgoyne and Dante were both really good tonight

I know he gave all way 50, but * I loved JHF giving it to the diver and then the umpire afterwards. Bloke is a beast.
How long has it been since we saw a dissent free? But the umps saw fit to bring it back at an absolutely crucial juncture for Geelong and against Port Adelaide.

Just another subjective rule that the corrupt AFL and the complicit umpires can employ to get big money Vic teams a few extra wins.
