THE GOOD

Butters was brilliant again. He might the 10 coaches votes.
Visentini hooked up with Butter, Rozee and the Hornet for fantastic centre clearances.
Visentini not getting beat but probably edging Stanley.
Rioli's first quarter and a bit.
Rozee playing hard.
The ability of Marshall to continually work his way into the game.
Powell-Pepper's goals were pretty darn good.
Burgoyne showing some run off half back
Williams being pretty stout again down back. No idea why he was ever dropped or subbed.
I thought Jobe Watson's commentary was good and he seemed fair.
If we get Ratugolea, he is a tough nut. Lots of good contested marking.
Horne-Francis finding other ways to influence the game.

THE MEDIOCRE

Rioli's form after the first quarter.
Considering the outs, a pretty good performance.
Jonas was not bad in that game. He didn't leak goals at all.
Very little contested marking without Dixon.
Evans just didn't quite get there but he isn't in the ugly.
Struggling for targets inside 50.
In the last few games, a few guys not happy with the work of others. Rozee on Jonas, etc.
Boak was OK.
Wines tried.

THE UGLY

Having a bad run with the umpires.
Bad defence allowing a point at the end of the 3rd quarter. Just pathetic play.
The decision making of the mid tier players at our half forward ruined many goal opportunities.
McEntee, Mead and to a lesser extent, Byrne-Jones did virtually nothing at half forward and looked timid.
I feel like something is wrong with Duursma.
Lord fumbling all game.
Horne-Francis 50 metres was completely unnecessary and ruined any chance of the game.
Bad miss by Wines in the last quarter.
Bad miss by Rozee in the last quarter.

All I am going to say about next week is that the Giants are a good, young team.
I also am interested to see how Briggs plays.
Allowing that point at the end of the 3rd quarter which could have just as easily been called a goal had to be seen to be believed, the Port defenders on the goal line looked like a group of zombies from The Night Of The Living Dead, their inaction was farcical.

Considering we have done a lot of good work on the goal line this year, it was very strange and they really had a lack of responsibility. Maybe we miss Aliir.

I thought Duursma did some good things last night. He's not an elite talent, he relies on his fitness from a continual run of games. Unfortunately he doesn't get a run on because he gets injured too much.
I feel like he doesn't trust his body anymore.

He also didn't seem to want to put his head over the ball.

I just hope he gets back to the form we know he can get to. I think he was on Miers for most of the game and he will probably be in the votes.

Someone needs to warn Esava, you won't get away with those push in the backs and arm chops if you come to Port. Probably best to stay at a club that you can get away with it at.

Better get used to it because it's not going to stop until the useless spud stops getting games for us. Which I suspect will be immediately after we're coached by literally any human being on the planet other than Jed McEntee's mum or Ken Hinkley.

Or I assume Josh Carr.

Gee pretty harsh, even the best players were unable to stop Messi Miers in his day

We're ranked 9th for percentage as it currently stands. We've had 5 single digit margin wins this year which could've gone either way. A 14-6 record had every potential to be 9-11.

I'd argue we barely deserve to be sitting in the top 4 as it stands, missing finals last year gave us a advantage to rest players for their return this year.

I think we're gonna get found out pretty soon, and a straight set finals exit isn't out of the question.

Am I doing this right? At least we played finals?

A
As with most weeks we bottle the set shots..

I’m proud of the effort

We play like that and we win the last 3
Agree!

I’m backing in Collingwood to win 3.

Brisbane to lose vs Pies at Marvel.

Demons to lose one either against Blues this weekend or Swans last round at SCG when Swannies might be going for a spot in the 8.

Win 3 and we can still finish 2nd.

If we can get fit players out there our young mids can rip it up in the clean weather of September.

We are right in this!

Demons biggest threat to everyone.

Feels like sacrilege saying this on here, but I’m proud of the effort from the boys.

Losing Finlayson and Bergman before the bounce and then McKenzie, it would have a been a mighty impressive win from anyone.
I’m the same.

I couldn’t watch the end of the showdown, horrible game.

This on the other hand - the effort and structure was there. Just a bit of polish missing that’s all.

Only difference between this year and last is luck.

Ruck stocks are worse, Boak and Jonas are becoming animated corpse tier players. Dixon and McKenzie are in a steady decline. Wines, DBJ are just average park footballers.

Rioli & JHF as recruits have been gains. Lord and Evans shown glimpses.

SPP, Rozee, Butters and Aliir are probably the only ones who are consistent in their roles week to week.

Plenty to like about this game.

Young mids super exciting, Dante great and clearly has a connection.

Dylan Williams excellent, Burton better intensity and great ball use.

Rioli straight back to A grade performance even though he’s been in and out. Hopefully he stays with this form now.

Duursma getting back into form, elite runner and tackler.

Wines hasn’t been playing as bad as people are saying. Getting some good balls to the young lads.

The Sheriff must have had some flu or some issue, passing off rather than kicking for goal. This isn’t the first week he’s been doing that though.

I thought Burgoyne was better tonight, clean and no downright changers.

Bonner a bit average, can’t say he really grasped his chance.

Hate it when McKenzie is injured, such a good player.

Love how Ollie Lord goes about it. Looks born for the game, I hope they can get him confidently kicking for goal.

McEntee and Francis - both have a poor habit of lack of self awareness and space and go for impossible goals or shots that are smothered. Need to learn how to read the play and bring others into it.

DBJ getting run down and tackled. Reminded me of young Amon when he had zero self awareness out there. He’s far too old to be getting caught so easily.

Missed Drew and Houston this game, used to both being dominant and only 21 touches between them, across 4 quarters almost invisible.

Overall I thought our game was in great shape - here’s to:

Port winning 3 - extremely possible
Lions dropping 1 - Pies at Marvel
Demons dropping 1 - Blues or Swans at SCG final round

That gets us to second and home QF. Entirely feasible.

Except that it isn't. Midfield and backline significantly different. There's been a huge amount of positional changes from last year.
