Review Port vs 31 free kicks to 19

I thought boak had a somewhat good game. Enough to stay in the team. I liked his sort of half foward/wing/backup mid role. I disagree with people saying he should not get another contract I think he is still good enough for another year, maybe 2 if he is lucky.
Boak was better than X; albeit, we NEED more from our Wings.
Depending what troops return next week, we may play Bergman on the Wing and give Duursma a rest.

According to Kane. Apparently we were on the phone to the ump department first thing Sunday. Querying not one ump gave geelong 15 frees

Let’s see the afl respond to this or ignore as normal..
If this actually happened then I'm impressed with my Club's management for the first time in ages. It's about time flagged this corrupt treatment we get from umpires. Next stop - commentators...

I am not convinced Esava is what we need, his best footy is when he is the spare and we already have a very good player for that.
Man on man Sav is not that impresive, if we trade him him it should not be for overs.
Jake Lever (2.7 intercept marks per game) and Steven May (2.8 intercept marks per game) both play as the 'spare' depending on which side of the ground the ball is going down, with the faster general defenders moving across the ground to cover as support. 5.5 intercept marks per game in total.

Harris Andrews (3.5 intercept marks per game) and Jack Payne (2.5 intercept marks per game) do the same for Brisbane. 6 intercept marks per game in total.

Collingwood has Darcy Moore (4.0 intercept marks per game) and Nathan Murphy (2.2 intercept marks per game). 6.2 intercept marks per game in total.

Carlton has Jacob Weitering (3.6 intercept marks per game) and Brodie Kemp (2.8 intercept marks per game). 6.4 intercept marks per game in total.

Gold Coast has Sam Collins (2.9 intercept marks per game) and Charlie Ballard (4.0 intercept marks per game). 6.9 intercept marks per game in total.

Richmond has Noah Balta (4.3 intercept marks per game) and Nick Vlastuin (3.5 intercept marks per game). 7.8 intercept marks per game in total.

Fremantle has Alex Pearce (2.5 intercept marks per game) and Brennan Cox (2.4 intercept marks per game). 4.9 intercept marks per game in total.

St Kilda has Callum Wilkie (2.9 intercept marks per game) and Josh Battle (2.5 intercept marks per game). 5.4 intercept marks per game in total.

All these teams have statistically a better defence than us, and all of these players are in the top 50 for intercept marks this season.

We have Aliir with 3.3 intercept marks a game. Our next best intercept mark is Trent McKenzie and Miles Bergman tied with 1.9. 5.2 intercept marks per game in total. Which might seem comparable to the other teams but the difference is that if Moore is doing a job on someone for Collingwood, Murphy will step up and take over that intercept role...whereas if Aliir has to do a job or is missing, we've got no-one to take his spot.

Esava is exactly what we need.

Effort was there. Lacked polish. Probably should have won. Same as 348 other losses in the past decade.

Mark this down as one of the 2 or 3 umpire reamings we get a year. Farcical. They seemed to get goals handed on a platter all the time.

I was not surprised by the set up question to Brad Scott in the post-match presser asking him "How good is Esava Ratugolea". They way Scott talked about him you'd think he was Harris Andrew, Steven May and Jacob Weitering rolled into one.

Having watched most of it on replay now, I’m disappointed in the final result and missed opportunity, but not shattered or surprised.

There were some really good signs: 1. The three superstar amigos in the middle under a very smart rookie ruckman who is learning his craft at AFL level quickly.
2. The outstanding form and combination work of Rioli and SPP.
3. The fact that our backline which was decimated by injury/sickness (McKenzie, Aliir, Jones, Bergman, Farrell) and had its best remaining player way down on form (Houston) held up reasonably well.

We need and have needed more from Duursma (although he did some good things) and Wines. McEntee just doesn’t do enough. Marshall threatened to really stand up in the second half and then didn’t take ultimate responsibility when we needed him to.

That was the loss we had to have - that one in particular is really irritating. All they need to do all week is set shot practice. I can see us on the way up now and win the next three leading into finals with a team that's had some injury and also the flu, we will track north from now, I think Collingwood are just entering troubled waters.

First half was very good, I think he had 15 possessions to half time. Fell away after that, I think he finished with 19.

Boaky is so slow now the rest of the game rushes past him when he has the ball giving him time to dispose of the ball.

Missing Piece: Episode 548906 - Esava

Was anyone surprised that we were the team caught up in the crackdown of the standing the mark rule as SPP allowed a leg hair to cross the mark?

Meanwhile Port get a free, Geelong kick the ball away, the Geelong player who marks the kick just drops the ball on the ground, 'Ok take the kick from where the free was paid'.

I've avoided saying it until now but I actually thought after a shaky start that Jonas was pretty good.

You could argue though that with McKenzie going out early and Jonas being unable to stand Cameron forced us to play Houston on him which took out a major rebounding strength of ours. And given how often and easily Geelong were able to transition from defence to attack down the wings then maybe not being able to play Houston as an interceptor was a net negative

Really? No Aliir and we’re always in trouble, add no Dixon and the odds for a loss increase but Lycett, Findlayson, Bergman Jones and Farrell as well I thought we’d get killed. The way the midfield played gave me hope for the future. Loved Dante’s game, thought Burton came back into form and Duursma slowly getting there. Avoid further injuries and Burton continues as he was against Geelong and I reckon we win the next three.
I just don't think Geelong are very good and we had them on toast early in the last and then shit the bed.

Is he? If he is exactly what we need, surely we would have made the deal happen last year. From what I’ve seen he shows all the attributes of someone who took up football 5 years after Travis Boak got drafted.
Geelong wouldn't trade him because he was contracted and they knew having Ratugloea would strengthen a direct competitor for the flag when they were still pushing for another flag this year.

I don't care about anything else - give me his 3.1 intercept marks per game and add that to Aliir's 3.3 intercept marks per game and I'm happy.
