Review Positives and Negatives from round 7: Carlton

Just pinching myself about how well we are playing. Seriously, Tommy Langdon, so cool, so poised, so reliable. Goldsack is playing like a man possessed. Loved what Pendles did to Daisy in the 3 qrt. Witts and Grundy - is that really happening? And Cloke has turned the corner - I'm calling it.

Edit: forgot to mention Jamie Elliott. How could I? The kid is a star.

Positives:
- Witts & Grundy
- Langdon, what a find this kid is
- Elliott is a star
- Usual suspects strong (Swan, Beams, Pendles)

Negatives:
- Thought Harry was poor, kicking is atrocious
- Adams deadest butchered the ball and didn't do a whole lot
- White was quiet
- Goal kicking.....again

Just got back from the game

Positives:

* Elliott
* Beams
* Witts and Grundy
* Goldsack the tackling maniac
* Tommy 'Wow where did we find this guy?' Langdon
* Getting to see Daisy knocked to the ground

Negatives:
* 4th quarter fadeout
* Lumumba & White
* Dwyer injured again?
* Goal Kicking
* The Carlton blokes sitting next to me

Seriously got a few rippers from these guys.

*Carlton player punches Elliott in the head in a marking contest (I think it was Elliott)
Me and everyone else: Ohhh free kick!
Carlton supporter: Oh shut up it's a mans game
Me: Tell that to Bryce Gibbs for me
Carlton supporter: *shuts up*

Carlton supporter: Oh that Elliott is something HE JUST CAN NOT MISS

Carlton supporter: It looks like there are more Collingwood players on the field then there really is.

Carlton supporter: We would have won with Waite in.

:thumbsu:

All in all a good night.

Positives: Carlton are shit. Really shit. Bell is their best player as he is the only non squib.

Goldsack is one of our most important players now.
Pies are awesome.

Negatives: Turned off in the last but expected that from the players subconsciously. Adams, Kennedy were average.
Sidebottom cannot maintain good form.

Frost was quiet? Gee gave Henderson a bath
If I didn't see a lot of Frost I wasn't too worried because Henderson was quieter than I had hoped he might be, thanks to Frost or inept Carlton team mates. Frost was not needed given Keeffe's offensive game. Keeffe brings athleticism and skill to his role and is doing far better than early season form suggested he would.

Thought we might struggle without Maxwell to general the troops in the backline. What a fantastic performance by Langdon. Showed experience beyond his years and looked comfortable at every stage. Super impressed by his game.

Elliott is sublime to watch. Brilliant overhead for his size and his accuracy is so important for us considering the amount of shots we miss every week. Also love that he just goes about his business without being arrogant, gets it done consistently and is always in the contest.

JT ran out of puff in the end but he did some great things through the first 3 quarters and will be better having played a full game.

Witts and Grundy were both great tonight too, really enjoying watching them grow week to week.

Overall 3 great quarters by a young side with a future that looks brighter every week.

Witts, Grundy, Elliott, Langdon, Keeffe, Beams and Cloke were excellent tonight. I am however a bit surprised there has been no mentioned of Buckley's press conference performance. I thought he presented as someone who had come of age, who was totally confident in himself, the players and the game plan and its execution. Compared to Malthouse's pressie in which he lamented the lack of substance in the Carlton team's performance, Buckley looked completely assured of himself, while Malthouse seemed like a yesterday man or even a year or two before yesterday. Buckley has answered his critics through the commitment of the players. The boys are motivated and have found a winning formula. Has there ever been a more satisfying performance than that of Dale Thomas! :p:p:p

Thought Frost was excellent myself. I rate Henderson highly and he killed him until junk time. The kid is having a huge year so far.

The tackling pressure is fantastic at the moment. Goldsack epitomises it. He reminds me of Max Rooke, who was a huge presence in two Geelong premierships purely for aggression and intensity in the tackle.

Tom Langdon's start to the season has been incredible. So composed for someone with so few games under his belt.

The three quarters prior were pretty special.

The gloss was well and truly taken off wit that insipid effort in the last. They kicked 8 goals FFS. Really poor effort from our boys.

Very mixed feelings after this game. For a Carl v Coll with a good win it was a real anti climax. Yes we played well but at the same time it was our worst performance since Freo round 1. We should have won that match by 80-100 points. Carlton were deplorable. Sometimes a bad team brings you down but they were witches hats for 3 Qs tonight then we stopped.

Maybe it was just playing a bad team but I thought we didn't reach any great heights tonight

Oh, ok then..nothing to improve on then.....god help us
Bucks said we have 8 young guys with limited experience and that explained our fade out. He saw the last quarter lapse as something to be analysed and worked through, waiting for young guys to learn from experience. He was really dwelling on positives, yet so obviously looked to improve on any weaknesses.

Postive. Beams Langdon Elliott stood out most.

Clokes kicking was great.

Played so well without Swan and Pendlebury dominating.

Witts is going great.

Goldsack is a tackling machine.

Won with 3 late with drawals

Negatives
Dale Thomas is a knob of a bloke and booing made it a sweet night.
Last qrt takin the foot of the brake.
Overal crowd. 66k piss poor.

Think I really like about Dwyer is he runs and runs and then runs in to really good spots where he is open and free and can then run again and run and carry.
He's got decent pace, obviously a good tank and excellent smarts and awareness. Skills aren't bad either. Has fitted in like a hand inside a mitten to this side.
Showed tonight just how well he gels with the team and provides plenty, hope the knee is a blip and not another set back.
